I am looking at upgrading the power in my 2.0 TFSI I am already at stage 1 and want more power, I know I can get intake and exhaust ect for stage 2+ but i am wanting more than 300bhp.

i have been looking for ko4 parts I need for the conversion which is turbo, injectors, HPFP, intercooler and all the pipe work plus a new ecu flash to tell the car about the upgrades. Looks like some work involved plus the internals won't be the same as the S3.

so I was thinking if I wanted to go to stage 2 + with the ko4 parts engine might not withstand the power so thought about swapping the full lump for the s3 lump.

My my question is would it be a engine direct swap with ecu flash or would I need S3 engine loom too plus is there anything else I am missing.

it's looking like more or less the same money to do both after selling old parts or old engine so not sure which to go for.

thanks

just upgrade, probs be cheaper insurance still! :p

But i think, THINK, it basically the same engine, but with even weaker rods. so after those being upgraded i think its the same thing anyway, bar the DV relocation for the k03-k04.

I would love to know more info on this also as im always planning on what to do next with my A3.

Surely you're talking £3k-£4k for the K04 upgrade then Stage2+ bits. Shop smart and you might be able to BT+forged rods on the non-s3 block for similar cash?

Not sure if the S3 2.0T casting is re-inforced though or if the block is the same. I remember a thread about this saying the non-S3 rods were good to like 320bhp boost equiv on K04 but don't quote me on that. me=not an expert.

these are the difrances between a low powered k03 and k04 tfsi

higher versions have stronger pistons and gudgeon pins, new rings, reinforced connecting rods, new bearings, reinforced cylinder block at the main bearing pedestals and cap, new lightweight aluminium-silicon alloy cylinder head for high temperature resistance and strength, adjusted exhaust camshaft timing, increased cross-section high-pressure injectors, 1.2 bars (17.4 psi) (value only valid for Audi S3(8P)) boost pressure K04 turbocharger with larger turbine and compression rotor

see they dont mention anything about internal upgrades.

It is also the same on the revo site, it says a GT3071r will be fine APPARENTLY with no change, it only mentions internals at stage 5 which is race map to 8krpm.

That's for the S3 engine.

The internals on that we know are good for at least 440lbs of torque.

Above that a bottom end rebuild would be advisable and a top end rebuild for anything above 7000 rpm.

I was running a GT3071 on mine for a year at 440bhp/440lbs with no issues and then had the bottom end built up for the extra torque when we upped the boost.

i was looking at the A3 2.0 part tho

I know.

I think a 3071 and anywhere near 400lbs of torque is asking for trouble on a non-S3 spec engine.

I would check that very carefully before any such conversion without tougher rods.

o yeh, im sure your right lol. :p

Sell yours and put the money towards an s3.....?
Spend £4/5k on your engine and the car will be worth £500 more maybe when you go to sell? maybe?
I know I sure wouldn't buy it off you.
Just buy an S3, stg1 is over 300 as I'm sure you'll be aware.

I hope so!

Last thing you want is a set of bent rods.
Lol
I think a call to either APR or Revo would clear it up as I know the approx torque limit on the stock S3 rods.

im just stuck at deciding if i should mod the A3 or not, because the likelyhood of me affording an S3 is next to nothing lol.

It's a real dilemma isn't it.

If it came to a big turbo build then it wouldn't make a lot of difference cost wise between the engines but below that there may not be a decent option.

Will see what budget I have then decide it think, quick question would a turbo back exhaust from an S3 be suitable for stage 2+ on a ko3 tfsi as it's good enough at over 300 horses on a mapped S3 so surely it would be good enough for 280 horses on a ko3??

As long as it fits yes.

Well tbh my aim is for a 3071, running at least 400 il be happy with, but if im doing rods and maybe even pistons this would be far cheaper than an S3 lol.
Plus probs neeed an engine rebuild as it has done nearly 130k miles now

I just dont know!...
