Hi all,

I've just been going through my Audi manual and have seen that it says typical oil consumption is up to 1 L every 600 miles but then in the supplementary manual I have for my car it says typical oil consumption half a litre every 600 miles

anyone care to shed some light on this?

In real life terms what should I typically expect for oil usage I have an AJL engine? Running 5w40 fully syn

thanks everyone,

Ash

Not sure on your particular car but my old bora said upto a litre every 1000 which didn't seem far off the truth. I don't think it's a rule as such just something that could happen some cars appear to use it others don't just check it regular.

A healthy engine will use very little.

I recon the wifes 150k motor uses about a litre every 4-5k, it needs one small top up about half way between its oil change interval (5k).

The manufacturer usually specify 1L per 1000miles or so as a worst case figure, this is really just to cover themselves for the odd engine that uses a bit of oil.

How many miles has the car done. Typically new cars can use oil some oil til evrything beds in. Some engines seem to use more oil than others. There are plenty of people driving around in 2.0 TFSI cars with 30-40K miles on the clock using 1L plus in 1000 miles.
The figure that is quoted in the book is not a typical figure but one the manufacturer puts there as a maximum and anything beyond that should be considered abnormal.

Just coming up to the 143thou mk. Not sure what the car is using. Very little from memory but I am fascinated to see what the car uses over the next few hundred miles. I shall take notes :salute:
