I've just been away for the weekend and first long trip in the a4, just did a 757 mile round trip which cost me just over £100 and managed a mpg of 46.4 which was drove mostly on a and b roads,.
Just wanted to see what other 2.0 tdi drivers are getting and to see how it compares, personal and over the figures iam getting.

For what its worth my 2.0tdi 140 bhp gives a similar mpg return to your own findings.

Mines around that on a 170bhp. But thats after a remap and dpf delete
 
My 07 tdi quattro 170 doing about 80miles a day, mainly M3 and A roads, if I drive at 70ish my dis says 42.7 but going by tank it's doing about 41.. Not great considering my old A6Q did 48-50.... Saving up for dpf delete and remap which should improve things...
 
My 2.0TDI (170) Quattro shows an average of around 33-35mpg on the dis. When I do shorter journeys it can vary from 30mpg if on slower roads to 40mpg if I'm on faster roads and keep the engine consistent.

I use an app on my phone as well, I've only had 3 full tanks recorded so far. First was 34mpg and the other two were both 36mpg so the dis seems pretty accurate.

I would have preferred to have an average of 40+ mpg so I'm a bit disappointed but I appreciate having Quattro doesn't help, as long as I'm above 35mpg then I can live with that. Makes me wonder if I should have gone for a petrol though but the Avant I've got is well specced so that's something I suppose.

Costs me around £80+ to fill up (135.9p/litre) and I get 450-500 per tank so far.

Not sure if there have been any mods done previously so assuming it is completely standard what difference could I expect from DPF and EGR delete/remap?

Wow. My stage 1 remapped petrol 2.0 TFSI does 30mpg (calculated). Feeling pretty happy about that. :)
 
My 2007 PD170 Quattro does around 35mpg, but I do drive it quite hard.

My A3 140 Quattro used to show around 40mpg on the DIS but the real work fuel usage between the two is nearly the same.

Not great for a TDI, but if I drove a similar powered petrol in the same way I would probably in the sub 20 mpg bracket.
 
Good to hear the other Quattros are in the mid-30s as well. Means mine must be about right, though I do try to drive gently/smoothly most the time so would still like better, haha!

Was on a fast B road today and driving consistent got me a 40mpg average over 40-50miles. Speeds less than 40mph definitely kill my mpg.

Filled up again today and my app shows the last tank at 35.5mpg with the DIS at ~33mpg.
 
There must be something wrong with my 2.0tdi, its just a standard 140 SE 57 plate and i can`t get more than 35mpg, it is auto though with multitronic. I dont drive it fast and ive got no errors on the vag-com.
 
Agree with caster driving below 40-50 constantly these engines don't do well on fuel. I try to keep my revs around the 1500-1800 range when cruising as it seems happier and more efficient. Not sure if it applies to fwd cars too.

As for the autos my colleague at work has a multitronic which won't see much better than 38 on a run
 
Today my car had a new clutch fitted and the manifold runner actuator manifold repaired, on the way to the garage 140 miles away going 65 70 mph all the way I got 47 mpg, on the way back with the car repaired doing 80 90 mph I got 51.7 mpg. Happy days:)
 
A4 B7 2006 get on average 43 mpg, but that's with high quality fuel and pretty rubbish roads (no motorway miles) could granny it and get more but we didn't really buy a 2.0tdi to do 40 everywhere
 
I was looking for an excuse to get the ECU on my B7 2.0TDI 170, looks like it's time to get rid of that pesky DPF... I'm getting about 45mpg on a 45 mile trip with about 75% motorway cruising in 6th and 25% stop start.

For those of you that have removed the DPF (which I've heard is considered a stage II mod.) have you uprated the discs/callipers?
 
Mine are still standerd brakes on mine

I've not done that yet but I'm seriously considering updating the brakes as they are a bit pants in standard form really.
 
I just got pagid brake pads and discs from euros really cheap and a really nice improvement.
 
Had a good mpg return today on my drive home from work:
15 miles (6 miles B roads, 7 miles motorway, 2 miles 30mph), took 26 mins according to the DIS and I managed a peak average of 46.4mpg and was parked with 45.7mpg. The last mile home is uphill so struggled to maintain >46mpg. This was on my 2.0tdi Quattro Avant.

Previous best I was aware of was parked at 40mpg, same route.

Usually used to hit 40mpg as the highest and that was on very few journeys with my main average being around 34-35. Not too sure of the sudden jump to 45+ but then again I did recently check the tyre pressures (and add some air) and the fuel tank is nearly empty.

So, top tips would be tyre pressures around 60-80psi depending on braveness and always run with less than 1/4 tank of fuel!

Disclaimer: I do not suggest you actually follow these top tips. Do so at your own peril!

Quite frankly only an idiot would run with those tyre pressures in std car tyres, as for the 1/4 tank surely thats more hassle than whats its worth as you have to refuel 4 times to my 1?
 
Sorry guys, you seemed to miss my sarcasm there! I most definitely didn't have tyres inflated to 60psi. Was a joke comment regarding my sudden jump of a 6-10mpg increase driving the same route.

Only difference was that I had checked my tyre pressures and added a small amount of air (up to 34psi all round) and had a 1/4 tank of fuel at the time, hence that comment as well.

So to clarify, 35psi tyres and a 1/4 tank of fuel are the only variables compared to my usual route home.

Drive home today.I filled the tank, £82.50 of diesel so I'm more than happy with a full tank.

Iirc its 35psi in the tyres anyway, you will be amazed how many people I see driving around with soggy tyres.
