I have a A3 2.0TDI sportback, the stop and start hasn't worked since prior to Xmas, I presumed this was due to the weather change, but after searching net, and reading my Audi book, stop start should work unless temp is below 4 degrees, which it has at times, but has warmed up now, but still not working.

I have followed book and tips on net, but each time I stop at a junction and release the clutch, engine stays running, display on dash that stop start not activated (same display as if air con was on), what also baffles me even more, if I where to stall, if I press clutch in, engine starts without having to turn the key.

Can anyone give me any tips on how to test please?

Many thanks in advance

My stop/start worked for the first time since way before Christmas yesterday. Not really something I was worried about because of the recent weather condition's etc.

It hasn't worried me until now as the weather has only recently warmed up, maybe I'll wait for it to get bit warmer, it could just be the weather affecting it.

The start/stop system is a very smart feature, and is affected by multiple things.

Engine does not switch off if:

The engine has not yet reached the minimum temperature required for start/stop mode

The interior temperature selected on the air conditioner has not been reached

The exterior temperature is very high or very low

The windscreen is being defrosted

The parking aid is switched on

The battery charge is too low

The steering wheel is close to full lock or the vehicle is being steered

Reverse gear has been selected

The vehicle is on a steep gradient

I have checked all of the above, apart from parking aid, does this mean parking sensor? As I have one on rear, when stop/start worked previously parking sensor also worked so not sure how to turn parking sensor off to test?

Have you checked the battery? If its low, it doesnt work.
If you mostly use the car for short distance trips, perhaps the battery is low.

Parking aid is not the rear sensors. But automatic parallel parking:)

Was thinking battery or starter motor, as have noticed the past 2 nights I've been out the auto lights have come on when leaving the vehicle, but not when getting back in, neither does the interior light, until a door is opened.
