S3 too loud?

Just been stopped by the police because of the exhaust noise on my totally standard S3.

It was in manual mode and a 3/4 throttle change from first to second pulling out of a junction in town was enough for the full blues and twos.

Just a warning for anyone thinking of an exhaust change....

Nicked an alloy when I pulled over........ Pants!
 
or was it just an excuse to have a nose ;-)

I was flashed by some tool because i applied full throttle whilst overtaking... I prolly woke him up. Yes it's quite loud.

Must admit i always downshift and apply more than the needed amount of revs when i pass bus stops, childish but makes me giggle ;).

I hope my stalker isn't reading this or it will affirm his views that S3 drivers are all boy racers. Hope you don't have privacy glass too or the aforementioned will be banging on about drug dealers too. ;-)

They've probably got one on order as an interceptor and fancied a nosey. To be fair the standard exhaust isn't quiet especially on wot up shifts around 4.5krpms.
 
Any pops and bangs on downshifts? Can't believe I've got to wait till Tuesday to get some of this in my life.
 
Will I get the same noise from a manual?? Hope so! ;-)

The blips are just a lot louder especially from 3rd to 2nd!

It'll be worth the wait, not sure what resonated will be like but I think it'll still be pretty loud!

Will see what the Shark fettling is like tomorrow, it'll be mentally fast I think.
 
Look forward to see what they come up with. Resonators can easily be removed ;).

I have a manual and can confirm you can get it to pop on up shifts, but you have to be gunning it, although not quite the same as the S-Tronic but still fun to hear. Plus the exhaust does sound slightly better than it did when new!
 
My friends A45 AMG with sports exhaust is ridiculous - he's not been bothered by any Officers - :laugh:

It'll be interesting once I get the S3 to see how much louder the A45 is to the S3

Let me put it this way... you'll get noticed ;).

Another one of my games...

We have a new tunnel next to my office, i leave at the same time as other colleagues who have fast machines... I like to drop my speed and accelerate hard in 2rd gear, the noise is incredible and resonates the whole tunnel. Once a motorbike rider turned his head to look at what was coming :). My colleagues agree that this is one loud as well as beautiful sounding car.

I loved playing that game through Switzerland in our straight 6 Z4 when we drown down to Italy last summer.

Picked mine up today, can't remember it being that loud on the test drive! Can't stop laughing!

My wife drove for a bit today and we stopped so I could take some photos.

She was just moving it around slowly and it makes a lovely burble on the exhausts - very very nice for a 4 banger

Just driven past the point that the car was "loud" to where the police car was parked. It is 0.2 miles.

So, either the police wanted a look around the car or it is spectacularly noisy.....
 
I'd go for the third option, it's spectacularly noisy and they wanted a good look :).

It is loud.

We were in the Conwy tunnels today and I put the window down and it sounded like a shotgun on a hard gear change with the s-tronic.

I was shocked how loud it is actually.

Yup, you're right there.

We've all seen those knobs with loud exhausts on their motorbikes (often little ones), who insist on riding around town at 12,000rpm.
What do we think of them? Brain dead, so what do you think the general public are likely to think about people in Audi's doing the same thing?

Like a nice sounding bike use a nice sounding car out in the country side, that's what it's made for not frightening old ladies and babies at bus stops.
