Hi guys my 57 plate BHZ S3 seems to have a slight starting issue at times when its cold, its seems to have to crank over a little more before it fires, once its warm it goes almost at initial turn of the key.
Also when its cold it doesn't run as smooth as when its warm it just feels a little lumpy?

I've changed Dv, PCV already and removed inlet manifold and cleaned the inlet ports.

Any ideas guys?

Spark plug carbon build up / end of life?

What plugs are you running?

Might whip a plug out next but I changed them when I 1st got the car in September last year there OEM from Tps so should be ok

No misfire just doesn't seem to run as smooth as I'd like when cold as said once warm it runs sweet

May also be worth checking the MAF and the cam follower.

I've seen a lot of threads containing comments about the cam follower, might look into this not sure where it's located with out looking it up.
I do have a spare mass air flow to try if it comes to it just haven't bothered yet lol

I do hope its not the cam follower

Cheers for the thread, reckon I may change the cam follower as precaution even if it seems fine.. Cheers for the heads up :)

Could also be coil packs, I have this issue also when starting from cold, fine once warm, my car is in Audi Tuesday for new coil packs so ill report back once they have be fitted hopefully this solves the issue.

Are the coil packs warranty? I no they did them under warranty when I had my 8L as they are so common

cheers

Not on the 8P's, I've changed coil packs and it didn't help my issue which was bad idle/misfire. I then got an emissions light with bank 1 running rich because the seal in my HPFP had gone. New Loba pump and all is fixed as far as the idle issue goes. I think the cold start issue is just a TFSI engine qwerk.

Some cars did get them as a free replacement, but my old '07 wasn't in the allocated batch that Audi deemed needed them. Worth a shot though.

Mine has just had the coil packs done by Audi for free I was going to ask about this as mine is doing it as well and I have done the cam follower as well

I have the exact problem in start up in the morning, but only on idle, just really lumpy, as soon as you start driving it clears itself. I have called audi to see if there is any outstanding recalls on mine and they said no, still on original coils.

Check your PCV

I'm going to spray brake cleaner on it and see if it picks up..

These latest posts have now baffled me haha, think I'm going to change the cam follower first and if the fault persists then I will go back to Tps for a replacement PCV.
Glad I've asked the question now though seems to be a fault and not me thinking there's one.

Cheers guys

Mines on 50 k so going to do cam follower and see from there, might also do PCV delete if it carries on. apparently had spark plugs at 40

Any luck with your visit to Audi?
I have fitted my cam follower and it does seem to drive smoother however I'm unsure if it's 100% fixed tbh
