Had a call today regarding my order. Apparently it will be up at the dealership in the next few days & the are giving me the option to pick up ASAP, or leave it until after March for the plate change.

Must say I'm tempted, but the way the weather has been, I'll hardly use it anyway I feel.

What would you all do?

Also, from those in the know, Is it ever possible to have the car delivered or taken home on trade plates & garaged until the new reg comes out? <- Probably a stupid question I know, but worth the ask.

I've ordered mine, and if i had the option to take it now with a 63 plate I would, If plates mattered to me that much I'd just spend £300 on a decent private plate.

It depends what's important to you - If you want slightly better resale value and 6 months of smugness :))), wait for the reg. If you want the car sooner, just take the car.

Well, the plate won't make any difference regarding the actual plate, as I have a private plate anyway.

I'll likely keep the car 10 years or so, so will the difference in reg even make a difference by then?

In no real hurry, as I have a runaround anyway, just curious as to everyone else's thoughts...

If you're keeping the car for 10 years the price difference will be so minimal you won't even notice it, you won't look back 10 years from now and say I'm glad I waited those extra 3 weeks to get the car.

Dealer offered me £500 to take my saloon tomorrow instead of the 1st so took the offer! I'm sure if you ask they'd oblige.

Oh I reckon I would cave in and just take it now. I'll keep it four years and just trade in so probably won't make much difference! I so can't wait the next 23 days!!! Never waited this long for a new car! Gonna pick it up with my private plate on it anyway so not that bothered about 2014.

For the sake of 3 weeks I'd personally wait

Can we stop talking about private plates before PilotAudi turns up and starts waving his chopper about?

I wonder what's the incentive behind dealer offering you moneto to pick it up earlier ? Car takes precious real estate or they just want to improve their stats for that period of time ... ?

If you do intend to keep it for 10 yrs (that's exactly what I'm thinking about!) honestly I would just pick it up now. Mine is build week 6 - so I'll be lucky if it's here a few days before the 1st.

If yo can wait until March the 1st I certainly would.

I would wait - otherwise in a couple of weeks when you see 14 plates on other cars your car may feel just that little bit old already!

I'd wait and get the car on a 14 plate. I waited 5 weeks to get my car on a 63 instead of a 13. The car was kept undercover inside the dealers storage garage until being prepared for collection so wasn't even left outside.

Now, now, now, get it and look after it properly.
If you are keeping for ten years you'll see no extra cash for it whatsoever from waiting.

Not that you get that much extra for one plate or another anyway. That applied minimally when there was a new reg only once a year, but that minimal value has been diluted by two plates a year.
Year of manufacture, condition and mileage over reg plate.

I assume the month before plate change is one of the harder months for them to sell cars so would imagine it's to improve the sales book. Plus I expect their compound get's pretty busy this time of year. All in all I intend on keeping my car longer than 3 years so for me it made sense to take the cash and pick it up early.

I understand the desire to get the car ASAP, but if you do get it before 1st March, I'll guarantee you'll have at least a little regret about that before the end of March. On the other hand, if the plan is to keep it for 10 years no point whatever waiting.

might be they are close to their targets so take a gamble to hit it - they make more from that than the actual sale per car as it triggers a big payment

id wait - ive waited since oct 18th so another few days wont hurt
