After a few recent insurance and valuation searches it appears that my reg is not recognised with the databases? Rang dvla and they said it could be because dealer that registered car from new didn't state model. Vin and engine number all match up correctly and details came up with hpi but not other searches? Strange!
service book has stamp from audi dealer in Cheltenham when it was delivered etc. could my car be an import that's why it doesn't show or am I being paranoid??

I'd say paranoid

If it's an import then it will state it in section 3 (special notes) of the V5. DVLA are also able to tell you if it's imported over the phone, although they'll say 'previously used overseas'

Is the make and model in section 4 of your V5?

well usual give away in service book is find out where stamped it to say they did the pre delivery inspection and that should tell you where it was registered

Really!?!? So they are all built in Germany and then import them...

Could be built anywhere ! Check you vin and it will tell you if you can decode it
