Trying to sort out an issue with my oil level sensor - it's been a bit iffy since the engine was out, and slowly got to the point the fault is permanently on the dashboard. Everything always checked out so I've just been keeping an close eye on levels until oil change time.

Anyway, changing the oil today and the wiring has obviously been damaged and badly repaired at some point, the plug no longer being connected to the loom.

My issue is the plug has 3 yellow wires, whereas on the loom I have yellow/black, brown, purple/white. Checking on ELSA the wiring should be 1=yellow/black, 2=brown, 3=brown/blue so doesn't match up to what I've got!

I'm tempted to work on the assumption for some reason I've got purple/white for pin 3 but don't want to do any damage. I guess it's possible the wrong plug has ended up on the level sensor when the engine went back in, but doesn't seem to be any other sensors nearby and nothing on the wiring diagram with the colours I've got either (that I can see).

Car is a 2000 APY.

Does anyone have any ideas or could be kind enough to look at their wiring?!

Trace the wiring back further. When audi supply a replacement plug it'll come with all yellow wiring. Someone's replaced the plug at some point.

The wiring diagram says the leads go back to connector T14 which is supposedly a 14 pin plug in the left hand side of the engine bay but I'll be damned if I can find anything that meets that description, nor can I visibly see the cable enough to trace it!

Interestingly enough since connecting the sensor up with a best guess the fault has gone from open to short to ground so hopefully just got the wires the wrong way round!

That was going to be the next step but I didn't want to drain it down if I didn't have to.

Weirdly after connecting the new sensor hanging loose and clearing the fault codes again, then reconnecting the original sensor still in situ it's now happy - I'm wondering if the contacts on the original sensor needed a scrub, or my new joints aren't great.

Fault's not come back after moving the car around a few times and normally it's instant so fingers crossed...
