Hi everyone I'm still in 2 minds weather to sell my audi a4 and get a leon cupra r as a weekend car but do love the a4 . Has anyone got or had a 20tdi170 remapped and dpf removed? If I was to keep mine I'd be looking to get this done . Does it make a lot of difference and does it make the car more reliable as these do have a lot of problems . London remaps will do a dpf delete egr delete and remap for £400 which I think is reasonable

Don't worry too much about the DPF, just take it off, gutt-it then weld it back so it still looks like it's there... Drove a few mapped ones with DPF delete- nice daily drivers ! Require money spending top reach silly power, mate has a b7 with a gtb2060vklr ball bearing turbo and sucks like a ho' on crack ! Bit of a handful too as it's only FWD !

Or leave the DPF in... 200bhp is the highest you can go but DPF delete's only hit 210bhp before you start reaching the limits of the turbo anyways.

I left mine in as the tuner recommended to leave it in unless I was having regen issues. Had trouble free motoring since.

Mines had dpf delete and remap. Feels like a different car

mines 170 Quattro, had remap, dfp delete and egr delete.

DPF is still on the car, just had insides removed and fitted again. Drives amazing, pulls well and is pretty damn quick for a big car.

I'm looking to get mine gutted and refitted . I only do short journeys so don't want the car to keep going into limp mode . And at the mo it's very sluggish at low revs then a burst of power I prefer more from low down the revs hence a remap. And the mot but is fine ;) my last 3 cars were de catted

I certainly wouldnt worry about the new MOT regs about DPF's as its only a visual examination and if its done right as in original cannister kept with DPF gutted then you have nothing to worry about. Alot of people are saying its an instant fail. If the MOT'er can distinguish between a gutted cannister and a full cannister he needs to be changing his job and saving the world coz its impossible to tell and the majority of the cannister is hidden aswell from top and bottom.

The 170TDI is prone to DPF problems so best thing is to get it deleted along with a stage 1 remap. Your looking at over 200bhp which the clutch will handle and it transforms the car which you will love. I have done alot of these and haven't had 1 negative comment.

Looks like I'm getting a remap and dpf gutted lol thanks for the advice everyone much appreciated :) the clutch was another thing I was worried about . If it goes would you recommend a standard clutch or a beefier one? And can I change just the clutch plate or do I need to do change the dual mass too?

If your doing clutch may as well do the dmf at same time while your at it save having to rebuild it if it goes

The cars done 100k so would probably be worth doing I've just had a new head after a cambelt snapping so the engine should be good for a map . Oh the joys of motoring lol

Mines on 100k as well just wish i cud get rid of the rough idle when cold. Got rid of the smoking thou

I think all 170 tdis run like that mate my dads got a 2.5 tdi it's smooth as silk but doesn't feel as lively as mine

I just raise the revs to just shy of 1000rpm and its fine. I call it a quirk lol

I found mine quite hard to pull away when I first drove it had to rev it to stop it juddering

Just gonna get on with it lifes to short lol

Thats what I like to see......conviction. You wont regret it and you know if the clutch goes then get it replaced with an uprated item a new flywheel........simple.

The rough idling when cold could also be down to a partially blocked EGR valve so if your getting the DPF deleted and going for a stage 1 ask the tuner to do a software EGR delete as this will isolate the EGR valve fully closed and deactivate it. I do this when doing the 170TDI's.

It was supposed to be closed at remap but if its gunked up and slightly open that cud explain it?

What would you suggest clutch wise ? And roughly how much is a uprated clutch and fly?

Has anyone actually had a dyno on there 2.0tdi 170? I want to get mine mapped and just wondering what sort of figures it will produce in BHP and torque but all I ever see is people say about "200" I've seen someone mention they can reach upto 215 bhp from just a remap not sure how true this is without any proof tho

Im wanting to get mine on the dyno, but the clutch wont allow it :(

Standard exhausts, and a pipercross filter and I have a constant turbo flutter after dpf delete

What did you do fit a blow off valve? Sounds good but ain't that going to wear the turbo bearings? Wouldn't mind doing that to mine aslong as it's healthy lol

T3nnant - my 170 sounds a bit like that. Did the Pipercross make a difference to the noise or did you have it done all at same time.

I had the DPF but my car was a straight pipe. Its due MOT in March so I'll be getting it done pretty soon so at least I get 12 months grace!

I don't know if its wearing bearings, to be honest car is on 108k miles so could do with new turbo. Hybrid next time!

No Blow off valve.

I had pipercross on since I had the car, so I couldn't tell you if made a difference between standard and pipercross after dfp mate.
Well I was thinking about "mufflerectomy" haha but not really needed and I kinda like the standard exhaust looks.

As much as this thread is giving me info it's making me nervous all this talk of new turbos and clutches :crying:

They just seem like money pits these tdis my old evo was easier to maintain than this lol

^^^ theres nothing wrong with my turbo mate, im just saying if it did go id be going hybrid.
As for the clutch, my car drives fine and I can still use the power.

just sometimes when I boot it.... starts to slip in 4th/5th so have to back off the pedal. Im not sure if its worse for me as mines AWD, but its the only clutch the cars ever had too, not to sure on the usually mileage wear on them.

How are people getting this sound just a remap with dpf deleted? Or do I need to get a different air filter aswell?

I think you take your chances when it comes to remapping to be fair. Im on my 3rd remapped car.........1st one was stage 2 PD140 and thats was fun and yes turbo failed but due to sheared actautor rod. My last 2 cars have been mapped with no problems. I think if contemplating a remap then budget at some time for a new clutch and possible new turbo. It may never happen but there is a possibility it could.

Mines gained 5 mpg on the fuel econmy as well

You won't get 200 with the DPF in place. 185 is realistic. DPF will quickly fail at 200. 215 with DPF delete is fairly easy.

My PD170 made 195 on a Dyno Dynamics roller at Corten Miller (South Lincolnshire) with DPF about 4 months ago. Done about 5k miles since then and had no problems.

Was told the DPF delete codes aren't very reliable on the PD170's? Also no point in delete if its not causing any problems.
