Hi Guys,

Im hoping you can help me out, i have been trawling the forum trying to find out about decats and downpipes. I have an AMK S3 and trying to get some more power. What decat is best? is it hard to fit, as i don't want to pay loads for fitting.

I really do want a whole cat back system like Milltek but cant afford it. So is fitting a decat and downpipe beneficial and easy without one?

What i have found so far is:
XS power
Relentless
Pipewerx

I know this has been covered in parts before, but i t would be really good if you could give me any help. Experiences of any set up.

cheers,

J

Pipewerx is the best out of them 3.... I wouldn't even entertain the other 2

I don't have one... Mine is custom because I have bigger turbo... Xs Power and Relentless are the same thing... John Ashley Exhaust do decat pipes I have had one of these...

On my k03s a3 I noticed quite a difference, when cruising you wouldn't event notice you had a decat, but when you put your foot down mine seemed to help the turbo spooling up earlier thus giving more torque and power earlier in the range (and sounded nice)

if you dont want to go crazy just get a remap mate, dunno if anyone in jersey does it but maybe someone could help you upload a generic map?

I have a relentless dp with 200 cell cat mated to standard exhaust, s2k filter and badger 5 tip and my car made 273bhp and 310ft/lb on r techs rollers. The dp made a big difference once fitted but was a complete **** to fit to be honest. If you don't want to spend much get an intake, filter and decent map and try to forget about the car!

same mate thats what i was getting at, i have the v3 manu aswell and made 280 and 263 torques when mapped by amd! the dp's are a *******! just map it unless you plan on going hybrid turbo imho...

i had relentless DP to decat then to rest of miltek system, yes DP was a b*tch to fit but i managed, hell of a difference over standard! worth the money!

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your inputs and thoughts its just what i needed. Dancuz and Justarn you both sound like you have the mods i would like. However as i live in Jersey there is only really the generic REVO map, not ideal but the only real option other than a dodgy garage. In addition we don't have MOT's here so i though a dp and decat would be a good idea. As you have said its such a pain and problem, i think i will get the decat and REVO map. I already have the badger 5 TIP.

This leaves me with what decat to buy, as celtis suggested the John Ashley looks good. I see they had a group buy on here years ago, did people rate them? Also what is THS, apparently they do/did one too, but it seems to have dents on it.

Cheers again, and dancus its easier said than done to forget about the car :)

ooohhh Limbo, hahaha you putting me in limbo with these decisions!! I actually read your thread last night, how many hours did it take you? Just trying to add up labour costs. If i was to go that route.

check my threads for a full write up on fitment inc turbo off/on and relentless manifold mate... its doeable but you need an angle grinder to cut the old one out and have to drop the sub frame and its still fecking tight... expect it to take half a day of knuckle scraping, wondering how the hell its going to fit, crap in your eyes pain if your doing it on your drive with an average halfords toolkit and your fairly competent. my relentless fits pretty well but ive heard their quality control is sporadic at best mate, good luck with whatever you decide. also jojo's car is on a generic stage two revo map and it apparently works really well, im on a generic amd stage two and im happy too tbh.

hah! probably took 3 hours that was with me an a friend, never done one before, theres alot of write ups on here on how to do it, basicaly i went through drivers wheel arch with a electric saw an cut the flexi then used a chopped spanner to undo the 3 DP to turbo nuts. i read up alot before attempting it tho! good look with it tho! i ran no silencers from decat to the miltek backbox, an it sounded great, no drone either :)

If you want a really cheap decat why not just gut the OEM one

Nice one cheers boys, i will read your threads and do my research and decide from there. Nice to know that some very good known s3's are running generic maps. Gives me a lot more confidence.

I will no doubt let you know when i've decided. Cheers for the help lads.

I'm sure you will be pleased with a generic map coming from a standard car IF you get the car ready to the map. I would be deleting the n249 and getting rid of pcv system and installing a catch can as a minimum to try and reduce the likelihood of leaks. I couldn't believe the number of small holes in mine when I did it early on!
