Could one of you guys with an A3 quattro Sportback post a picture of the luggage area with the luggage floor raised. I would like to see what if any space there is below the floor. Many thanks.

Would you have a sub-woofer of any kind? I have no idea whether these speakers only fit the space saver or not.
Perhaps at some stage you could measure the diameter of the sub-woofer for me. It would not be a real problem because I would probably only put the full-size spare in the car when I go on my longer holiday trips to Germany when I tend not to play any music. My wife and I like to chat about what's around us when on holiday.

preferably on a B&O system... allowing your Audi Tech Pack sat nav to direct you to the nearest Lidl supermarket.

I think I would prefer to chat with my wife and use my TomTom to direct me to my hotel. Just driving on super German roads and autobahns is cultural enough for me (and my wife)!!!

When we bought my first hi-fi system way back in 1970 the first LP we bought was a Simon and Garfunkel!!!
No memory is fine, just joking. Have loads of old stuff much transferred to iTunes for playing on Bose or b & o whenever possible . Also have 50. + years of car mags, my old uncle and I never threw one away.. Retirement projects maybe!

The speaker is 42cm diameter and fits very snugly into the spare wheel so I guess it has been specifically designed for this.
And the depth under the floor around the wheel is 9cm.
Don't know if you realise but... so here's to you Mrs Robinson... is closer than you might think, as she is Mrs Robinson. Her initials are also JR (private plate H5 JHR) so she was also getting ribbed at work being called "Mrs Robinson" from the song or being called JR from Dallas.
Thanks very much snakehips - you're a star. I will check against my existing full-size spare. It's strange that, with all this move to metric, we still size wheels in inches for diameter and tyres by mm for width. I noticed in ETKA there are two sizes for the space-saver spare for the 8V A3 - one is 18" x 3.5J and costs £159 and the other is 16" x 3.5J and costs £79. As the sub-woofer is 420cm = 16.5" and my current steel spare is a 16" it may well fit in my full-size spare.
When I put my full sized wheel & tyre in the space for the spare, the boot lid only just shut in its upper position. I wouldn't have thought the same would work in a quattro if the floor is already raised a bit!
Yes it may be a bit tight but snakehips says the is 90mm above the tyre and the space-saver tyres is 125mm = 215mm. My full-size spare is a 16" wheel with 205/70 tyre so it may just fit.
Perhaps if I try the 184 quattro again I can try puuting my full-size spare in the luggage area and see if it fits. It's not something that would stop me buying that particular model. If I really wanted to I could carry the spare behind a front seat whilst there were cases in the luggage area and put it to the luggage area when I took the cases out when I get to the hotel. This is what I used to do before I purchased the inserts from Audi to raise the luggage area floor on my current and previous A3s.

Are you all sure that quattros still have a two position floor?

From my memory .... and I can only be 95% sure, the S3 I looked at recently only one boot floor position.
Daughter has a two position boot floor in her Sportback ( 8P) but it's not quattro , and it doesn't even have a spare, just the can stuff !
In fact with the floor lowered there's a surprising amout of boot space.... just wish quattros were the same!

The quattros do only have the one floor position. It the same as the higher position on a normal 8V, but the photo and measurements provided by snakehips are from a 184 stronic quattro and that is what I'm basing my assumptions on. It does have a space-saver spare and so did the one a borrowed a couple of weeks ago.
My current 8P Sportback is similar. It is only front-wheel drive but it has the foam packing units I bought under the floor which raise the floor to take a full-size spare with a 205mm wide tyre.
don't remember anything much in the way of foam blocks in daughter's car. I'll check with her later!
The foam blocks were extra optional parts I purchased from Audi to raise the floor so that it would accommodate the full-size spare. There are not there as standard on the 8P.

Sorry if what I said wasn't clear. I meant the depth of the space either side of the tyre (in fact I just re-measured and it's more like 100mm). There is NO space between the top of the speaker and the boot floor. The tyre plus speaker are in a recess that is approx. 130mm deep. Not enough for a full fat tyre I suspect.
There are three parts:
8P4 864 501, 8P0 864 501A and 8P0 864 501B. The are for for front-wheel drive vehicles.
for a quattro the numbers are 8P0 864 501D + the same 8P0 864 501A and 501B. They are all priced in ETKA at £25.74 each.
