I'm asking on behalf of a friend who has just bought his first Audi. I've asked for the common faults on this engine in the a6 section as it's an allroad but had no replies and was just wondering if anyone could help here please. His temperature gauge sits at 60 and I was wondering if this is correct for this engine or if it sufffers from the same common failure problem of the 1.9tdi engine of temperature sender and should be reading 90 any help would be greatly appreciated.

According to my knowledge, 130 miles later the engine lunches itself and part of the new audi oem parts, had failed prematurely.

Most likely a stuck open/failed thermostat. Unfortunately is not cheap or easy to replace...

It's worth changing the CTS first though, I have done a how to guide for it which is in the sticky threads. Probably cost approx £30.

Thermostat is a front off job, and then involves new timing gear etc.

as above it should sit at 90. if the guage reads a steady 60 then the coolant temp sensor will be ok. If if drops to 0 then returns its broken. Other than that its the thermostat. This is located behind all of the cambelts and other bits and bobs at the front of the engine and cannot be changed without taking all the belts off. Can be expensive as you may aswell change all the belts, pullys, waterpump at the same time. When i first bought mine i found this out and eventually had all the work done by Adamss24. deffo worth talking to him. he does a top job and at a fraction of the cost audio would want

I'll let him know to try the CTS first and see if that does the trick if not he's wanting a timing kit done on it anyway so it'll probably be better off getting it done then if it is the thermostat. Thanks for the info much appreciated .

If the stats stuck the heater will be poor.If it warms up quickly its OK hope its the CTS easy job

if the temp sensor is at fault. i have one here for a 1.9. may be the same part number for the 2.5?

Thanks for the help I've had him some quotes for getting timing kit done and water pump and God damm I'm glad mine isn't a 2.5tdi nearly 700 notes ouch .
