Hi All,
I'm very close to having my order locked, and hopefully I can squeeze in one or two changes to the spec without it getting delayed - I've specced the Comfort pack, so it comes with the Acoustic Parking System - rear sensor with sound indication.

I know that the Parking System Plus (£250) includes front sensor & visual display of the obstacles on the parking path. I dont really care for the front sensor - but I do have a tendency to hit a kerb with my wheels when parallel parking.

So the question is does the Plus system improve on the basic option and will it help protect my alloys from getting scuffed ?

Thanks

The Parking plus had the front and rear sensors and also has picture with distance on the screen as well as the beeping indicator. Very usefull for knowing which obstacle is in the way from which side.

As far as parallel parking the kerbs would really be to low for the senors to detect them.

That might really be a case for the auto dimming mirrors which also have the option to dip on reverse, other options would be the reversing cmera or even audi parking system plus with park assist.

I prefer the parking plus just for the display on the screen rather than the front sensor which has some benefit trying to get in or out of a tight space on parallel parking, but really it wont help the alloys too much

The kerbs aren't going to be picked up by the sensors. Park assist is one option, reversing camera is another (it has a mode that overlays graphics to help with parallel parking).

I think the mirror dip can be enabled via VCDS if you want that, even if you don't have the folding mirrors that it normally comes with.

We have every parking option fitted.
Comfort Pack, Parking System Plus sensors front rear, Rear Camera and Park Assist.

If we were to spec the car again we would go for all except Park Assist.

The Rear Camera view has the steering graphic overlaid onto it and works superbly.
Park Assist can be a bit of a faff, IMHO I don't need it for 90% of parking scenarios as the sensors and camera give you so much extra room to play with when parking.

I have a version of park assist, and front and rear sensors with a visual display on my present car and I can say I have only used the 'park assist' a couple of times just to demonstrate it. Now I have the choice I have not spec'd it on my order as I feel it is a waste of money. I use the parking sensors with the visual display quite often and have spec'd this on my present order...

Park plus is a useful feature. Adding to Anarchs question.. does anyone know if the passenger mirror dips on reversing as it does on many A5/7 cars I've had. A very useful feature.. other option to avoid damage to wheels is to drive more carefully.. or consider the unfortunately named and fugly 'Alloygaitors'.

My passenger mirror dips, and there's a switch on the door to do it. Not sure what spec actually provides this though.

You can have the 'visual' side of parking plus turned on with vcds. But I don't think it will offer any help with kerb parking.

I'm sure the mirror does dip if the knob is turned to left adjustment.

If you add either of the two following options. The both state that the passenger side mirror dip is included:

6XE Door mirrors – electrically adjustable, folding and heated. Also includes an automatic kerb view dipping function on
the passenger side when reverse gear is selected - all models £150

6XK Door mirrors – auto-dimming on the driver’s side, electrically adjustable, folding and heated. Also includes an automatic
kerb view dipping function on the passenger side when reverse gear is selected. Only in combination with auto-dimming
rear-view mirror (PU7) or Comfort package (WBI) - all models £250

Strange for someone who does not like s-tronic 'because you loose some control over your car' when basically all it provides is an automatic clutch if you want to drive it in that way but is quite happy to include the option to let the car park it's self.

Any Yes the dipping passenger mirror is included if you include one of the two mirror options (6XE or 6XK) mentioned in my previous post.

Exactly like h5djr said - it comes with either of the mirror 'upgrades' - all you have to do for it to work is to have the knob used for moving the mirror set to the passenger side.

I think that this forum is sponsored by the dark society of Audi dealers - I came in to ask about a £250 option and was nearly coerced into getting camera & Park Assist as well ;)

Cemerson - how can you change settings on VCDS - and doesn't it involve risk of 'bricking' the onboard computer ?

I don't know much about VCDS - there are people on here who know more than me about it, I just know it can be done.

I have all these fitted too. My logic with the park assist is that it wasn't actually that much more than the next option down (parking plus), and I do find it useful occasionally. I do find it FAR better at parallel parking than bay parking though!

It's actually also useful for getting OUT of spaces - if you activate it while in a space and use the indicators, it can guide you out of a space too if cars in front or behind you park too close for comfort!

I think s-tronic is brilliant.. don't think I've ever said 'I don't like it' Dave.. What I do believe is that on a smallish hot hatch like an S3 manual is more to my likeing... on an A5/6/7 Barge S Tronic is brilliant IMHO.

You'll be getting one with a proper engine and quattro if you hang around Anarch!!

OK it's just that I think s-tronic is perfect for any car, hot hatch or 'barge'. Why mess about with a old fashioned clutch pedal when electronics and hydraulics can make a better job of it. It just seems a strange combination like or want a system where the car can park itself but not want one that does away with having to press the clutch pedal just to change gear.

But as I always say each to his own. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same.

Agree with most of that Dave but an S3 isn't a cruiser or a barge, it's arguably a modern hot hatch golf gti escort xr3 in the 80s and I reckon manual suits this genre best .. Call me nostalgic but manual for me on a/s3

its worth the extra £250, if you try to retrofit it at a later stage you will pay much more for it

As you will with all other options - so why not tick every box on the option list ;)

Answering my own question from the original post - it doesn't help with kerbing the alloys but it's a handy feature to have.

Have you got the dipping passenger mirror sorted Anarch... useful feature to avoid kerbing.

I've added that option at the last minute, I'm also thinking about getting tyres with rim protectors in the future.

What tyres do you have? Ours are Contis as it seems are most S3. Plan to move to Michelin when we change as the wheels look very vulnerable !

Contis as well - I think they're a 'standard issue' on S line. I'm quite fixed on PS3s as well - had very good experience with Michelin tyres in the past. It might take me quite a while to go through the current tyres - and I'm a bit worried that my current alloys won't survive that long. The S line alloys are indeed very vulnerable - the first point of contact is the actual arm of the alloy rather than a tyre.

I'll buy the Contis off you this week £25 each ;-) seriously I think we just need to be careful!

Everyone says that and still everyone has scuffed wheels :) My neighbour has resorted to not washing his car as a method of camouflaging his damaged black alloys. I think I will need a bit more time with the car to get a proper feel and get used to it - so far I feel like driving a van - I'm being a bit too careful :)

Is it really possible to activate the visual site with VCDS? Where can I find more information on how to do that?

Had my visual display done last week along with lap timer. Oil temp and needle sweep done by brotek how to activate is on vcds mods thread
