Hope you boys & girls all had a good Christmas and preparing yourself for the "New Year"

This has probably been discussed many times over but I'm looking at a set of new tyres for my 2.0TDI Quattro. I currently have Conti SC5's (or at least did until I had to get a new wheel due to damage that came which a Michelin PS on it and the idiots that did the insurance work replaced the new wheel and put a Conti SC2 on it even though the other 3 where 5's.... But that's another story!

I'm looking at either Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 2's or Kuhmo Ecsta XT KU37's.

Anyone had either or both and can give good/bad points?
Ideally want something that will last a decent amount of miles but not be too hard.

Was thinking about some Vredestein Quatrac 3's but I don't want to have to replace them that soon before summer comes and they chew themselves up quick.

F1's all the way. Those Kumho's won't even be in the same league , they don't even have a rim protector.

Cheers gaz, have you run Conti SC5's? If you have how do you find them compared to F1's?
 
f1s are a great tyre but,the ku37 must run it damn close.was put on to these when i had a vx220 turbo.the forum lads raved over the 37s and 39s .for the price they are totally unrivalled.....imo of course
 
The F1's are £123 and the KU37's are £83. That's a fair difference when your buying 4 lol.
 
i actually thought the 39s were good with light cars only.put these on my impreza and the grip is just outstanding,i have different alloys with potenza s001s for the scoob and these feel edgy and very noisy compared to the 39s.for the audi i think the 39s would be better than 37s

The previous KU31 were highly regarded a KU39 came along highly regarded again but in 2.5 years the sidewall has cracked.

Kumhos have the slimmest of all rim protection, a pointless 3.5 mm.
 
I have never come across anything that come near to Good Year F1's, they are awesome in all conditions.

my lad is into dubs so stance and stretch is the name of the game so as he states who cares about rim protection lol.never had any of my kuhmos crack to be honest.had problems with contis and heavy biased sections from brand new tyres
 
as said above the f1s are a cracking tyre.....worth the difference in price hmmmmm not to sure!!

I was quoted same price for F1 as Dunlop Maxx 22540/18. £410 for 4 fitted etc ( £450 - £40 fuel voucher)
 
F1s get my vote good dry and wet tyre. Removed them after 2years and 17500 miles as I'm getting my wheels refurbished, they still had about 3mm of tread on them.
 
The wife has Khumo ecstas on her Mazda, I'm not a fan as they are noisy and wet grip not as good as the oem dunlops.

I run Vredestein Sesstansas in summer, currently have Dunlop Wintersport fitted.

Goodyear eagle seems to be the tyre of choice for most though.
 
In 11 months I've done nearly 30,000 miles so looking for something I can do 6months minimum on. Most of the miles are motorway as I do 480 miles in 3 days traveling to London and back.
 
I asked a similar question a lot if people go for the conti 5s or the pilot ps2 for superior grip.
 
I have Conti SC 5's at the moment (or at least 2. They've not been bad I have to say and as the nicer weather is coming in was just wondering what other options would be. I know good year pride themselves on their water clearing ability. They also seem to be better for fuel economy and quieter than the conti's. So was just looking for how people got on with them and rough mileage they got to a set.
 
I did have a set of PS3 on my R32 mk5 didn't see a problem at all - there about the same price as PS2 as well.
