Hello people.

just thought I would share this with you.

basicly my car has been getting very intermittent power/torque when pushing the throttle, some times my car would feel like a 1.6 petrol and others it would shift like the 2.5tdi should.

car is on 158k, full timing belt, tentioners, pullies and aux belt and pullies just changed and car runs smoother and quieter due to all my pullies having play in them but the car still felt gutless at times.

so I checked the mounts and found that my snub mount was completely worn. So I changed that and boom all my power issues have gone, engine feels solid and gearstick has next to no movement when pulling away and chaning gear and the biggest bonus I have instant torque when I press the throttle! Not sure how this works but im guessing with the snub mount worn out I was loosing torque due to the engine movement and possibly it electric mounts detecting the movement???? Im not clued up on the electric mounts o the car so I dont know if they are able to tell the ecu to cut the power if the engine has excessive movement.

anyway its worth checking if you 2.5 is having power issues. I was almost putting mine down to vains on the turbo being clogged but it wasn't!

main engine mounts will be replaced next month for peace of mind!

Nice one and thanks for sharing, deffo going to change mine. Did you get one from audi or any of the aftermarket upgrade replacements

Very interesting, I have one of these sitting ready to go on.

I have not yet fitted as I am awaiting delivery of a few other mounts (gearbox.etc) because of the gearstick wobbling forwards and backwards when sat a certain road & engine speed.

I got mine from euro carparts;
Audi | Euro Car Parts UK’s No.1 Car Parts Retailer

Just bumping this for anyone who has a bit of vibration/engine skip when setting off. ECP have a big sale on at the minute so these only come in at £3.59

Thought it was worth bringing back to life as these always perish on these cars.

It's a pita that we can only get the Neuspeed polly one over here. It's too stiff for a derv, and it's £50 to import one from the US

You can get uprated rubber items that are used on the RS cars from the dealers. The electric engine mounts don't detect engine movement they are able to stiffen up when you are on the gas.
Because of the way the engine and transaxle is mounted when you go to accelerate the engine is trying to be lifted at the front. If the snub mount is worn then it can move and all this energy is put into lifting the engine rather than propelling the car down the road.
I fitted a rubber one to my Passat. Stiffer than the standard foam but not like the polyeurathane competition items.

The hole in the centre is round but it does push onto the u shaped support on the front of the engine.
You then adjust the bolts on the mount to centre the engine mount.

fitted mine at the weekend, when i removed the old one it had cracked at the lower corners and was quite squashy when you pinched it, more so than the new one. All in it took an hour as one of the hex bolts was a pain to access. As for the difference well the gear changes are definitely smoother and the gear stick does not move forward or backwards when you accelerate or take your foot off to coast anymore. All in all a very good £3.60 well spent. would recomend anyone who has movement on the gear stick to try this.

I swapped mine last month, I also replaced one of the faulty hydro mounts and the rear gearbox mount.
As above, no movement on the gearstick anymore, plus it likes changing gear quicker due to less movement going on (linkages).
Cant comment on any restored power though - it feels the same.

No. i did mine in the standard position, i removed the mount bracket at both sides..front and rear changed the mount and refitted. There is enough room just

Rear gearbox mount you say, I didn't realise they had two gearbox mounts? I'll see how much they are from Audi when I'm there tomorrow as non came up on ECP when I looked for the snub mount.

Jim, it depends on the car, I believe some have a mount either side and others just a single center mount at the rear of the box.
Mine is a 6-speed manual quattro and had a single center gearbox mount.
ECP don't sell them, Audi only sell them as a complete mount assembly with bracket which is over £100.
I cross referenced the part number and managed to get a Febi one from Rexbo sent from Germany for £30.
Use the Febi part finder: febi United Kingdom | Home

There are quite a few variants of mount, so make sure you have the engine and gearbox code correct, the part for mine was; 8E0 399 105 HQ S1 which I got from Car Parts | Auto Parts, Truck Parts & Car Care Online Shop

The snub mount does, but I'm not sure about the rear mount yet I'm going to look into what my 1.9 has. There is no point changing just the front one if the rear is fudged too as it will just wear out quickly.
When I find out which rear mounts I need I'll order them in line with a polly snub mount from over the pond, I just got one of these as a quick, cheap fix for now.
