Newbie with Service Plan question!

If you're on variable service interval and do mainly motorway miles, you will get 18k between services, which will be about £275-300. Assuming you trade it before the 2nd service, save your money! If you've got long life tyres on the car, i.e. Michelin, it makes even less sense.

We don't go for service plans on our company cars any more.

Too restrictive.

For example,they will tell you which tyre shop to go to and they will tell you which tyres to fit,which is a pain.

18k services can be had for under £200,if you phone around dealers.

There's barely a week goes by without servicing costs being discussed,so just keep a look out,or ask.

Hello and welcome to the forum. You've made a good choice of car and I'm sure you will enjoy it. I'm current on my 5th A3, but my first Diesel.

As far as service costs go on the A3, assuming your car is set for AVS (Audi Variable Servicing) which they are generally when the leave the factory, your car is going to require two AVS services in 36k miles.

The first AVS service (at around 18k) is going to cost in the region of £200-£250 depending on the dealer. Some dealers do charge more (up to £350). The second AVS Service is going to cost a little more (1.6 hours labour rather than 1.1hours labour for the first service). Also as yours has a DSG gearbox the oil in the DSG has to be changed at 40k and this will cost in the region of £200.

Check what your particular dealer will charge for these services, but it looks like the £406.56 is a good price to cover all the services required. Check also if that included the DSG oil change due at 40k.

Not so sure about the plan including tyres. Other forum members who have this plan can comment better but it seems that it can be very restricting about the tyres used and a what point they are changed.

I considered the service plan but when I got a quote for the mileage I am intending to cover it didn't really make sense. I think worse case scenario I will break even but so far I am better off without it.

Plus as Bowfer says there are restrictions on tyres for example and as others has discovered you have to take what they specify.
