Need a bit of help or advise please guys, basically was driving up the motorway in 6th about 80mph and the car lost power the glow plug light started flashing and now the engine management light is on, it seemed to smoke as well but only when out of gear and off the power, its a 170tdi bed engine, any ideas would be appreciated just so I've got an idea of what to ask the garage to check, cheers.

mines had similar symptoms last week. Mechanic spotted the problem and fixed in 5 minutes. one of the boost hoses had popped off. have a look at your hoses it maybe a quick fix.

Cheers any idea where to look?

Mines is a 3.0 tdi so it will be different from yours. Check hoses around the turbo, intake manifold, intercooler.

Ok cheers I'm thinking it may be a split pipe if honest, or more so hoping its that simple.

Cheers I'll let the garage know when I take it , I did try the stop restart trick but it never made any difference the problem remained, don't know if it'll make any difference when the cars cooled down or not, suppose until its been read there's no real way of knowing, I've been told the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler is prone to splitting so may be that hopefully, how much was the pressure sensor to get done if you don't mind me asking.

It was about 50 for the part plus fitting I think. If the problem persists after restarting then possibly not the same fault though. Hopefully the pipe is just split and should be a very easy fix. Our golf GTTDI had a similar problem but it was the retaining clips that hold the pipe in place - cost about £1.50 for a new clip. Hope you get it sorted.

Ok update, the turbo knackered and they suspect the head is cracked but won't confirm until the turbo issue is sorted, so looks like the turbo is off to be repaired first then the head issue after that, merry Christmas eh!
