Hi all,

i recently bought a cabriolet which has a 2.5v6 tdi.
the car drives great, no issues apart from starting it.

basically the problem is: first thing in the morning the car starts fine. The glow plug light stays on for 5-10 seconds. One cycle and car starts. HOWEVER, if I drive for half hour, switch it off and come back within the next few hours, when I start it the glow plug light only stays on for a second. And car doesn't start straight away.. Chugs after 5-6 turns it starts bits smokes white initially.

ive removed all glow plugs and checked em, there all fine. Is there something that controls the cycle duration of the glow plugs?
maybe temperature related as the issue is not warming plugs if the cars warm.??

PLEASE HELP..

You need to adjust your pump timing to more advance. Open the three bolts from driver side cam wheel and turn the wheel clockwise few degrees. If you have vcds you can see timing on channel 004 -> basic settings -> late timing should be ~2 ATDC (My personal recommend is to adjust to 0 ATDC) with 100% pulse width duty cycle.

Hi, thanks for reply.

You our say my timing could be out slightly. It's recently had the timing belt changed so this does coincide, so maybe it's slightly out.
may I ask how does this sonly affect warm start, not cold start.?

cheers

So VCDS can set my car to give full cycle even when warm.??

i don't have VCDS, but need this sorted so will find Simone who can local.
i also have an issue with my DIS showing the opposite door open when I enter the vehicle.
guessing it's set as LHD.

You car does not need cold start parameters for warm start. So less fuel is injected and there fore fuel pressure ramp is more late than with cold start.
