Some more pics from different angles today, still not got round to doing the black grill and the centre part below it though I have done the rear valance :)

this shows what the inside looks like, not great but I could improve this with some thinner if it bothered me, your obviously always going to see the original colour unless you really go to town and do the inside!

...and some pressed numberplates with decent screws - that rear plate brings the whole look down imho!

Cracking job on the plastidipping though!
 
Yeh cool stuff, worth a wee temporary change of colour! Looks cool and could have diffrent car every 6 months if u wanted haha. Yeh get lights sorted nice wee touch! Also wheels should be powder coated as I defo dont see dip working well on them.

I think it looks fantastic. The results are amazing and even got me wondering wether to do it to my car to get rid of the stonechips by changing colour lol.
Just out of interest do u clean it normally or ie don't go near it with a pressure washer?
And can u wax on it afterwards?

you can wash it with a pressure washer according to a video made by dyc.com, there's little point waxing I wouldn't have thought because its a Matt finish, but just wash if the usual way
 
Well it looks the mutts nuts, cracking effort m8.
Making me wish that I'd bought a white car now lol.
 
It wont wax.
Don't forget its basicly rubber.

Wash it was a jet wash, a garage jet washer or your lambs wool mitt and you'll be fine.
Don't use a sponge though. :)

Most cleaning chemicals are ok. I've only used generic car shampoo from halfords and like without any issues.

great job, i would never even attempt this myself - would end in tears lol

im guessing it would cost a lot to have a specialist do it
 
finished of the front end today, did the bottom centre part of the bumper and the chrome surround on the grill, decided against plastidipping the whole grill because it would be a fiddle to remove again from all the slots, I'm really pleased with the way it looks now.

I'd be interested in doing this to my A3.. but is it legal? what if you go through a speed camera and they can see the car is registered black but now its white?
 
You tell DVLA you have changed the colour of the car
 
From what I've read on here, I always assumed that the DVLA would have to be notified.
 
1st of all... Awesome job, car looks great!

I've had a bit of experience with plastidip, but never done a full car... Done a lot of research for my mate who wants to get this done..

Because it its pretty much new technology, i'm wondering what the lasting effect will be... If its anything like vinyl wrapping then i'm sure it'll be a while... The normal matt I feel leaves a pretty textured finish, but thats when looking directly up close! Stand 2 foot back and it'll never be noticed.... The Glossifier however is smooth but leaves the applied object feeling like a dense rubber, but I suppose your not gonna be caressing the ****** thing! ha

Anyway... top job!!!!!! and a great read!

If I decided to go down that road, then maybe a wee experiment with colour mixing and thinners would be the way to go! (As the colours to date, are quite limited) Would LOVE that burnt orange colour on the car, just to be different... :) i'm thinking 80% Red to a 20% yellow.... but anyway, thats a job for another day, and would need to do a bit of research to see if colours could be mixed in the 1st place.....

Thanks for the comments! I think the white is especially textured compared to what I've used before, it was kind if dusty to spray on, and I an feel it in the finish, whereas the gray and black were quite smooth

Yeah they're miles ahead of the older ones, drop NHN a message, bargain really, plus i sold my old ones for £50 so worked out even less.

In regards to it being shiny, I love these shots!

Very nice, black looks great when clean, problem is it doesn't stay that way and even a quick wash requires properly drying to look good, since mines been white I've driven in some heavy rain this week over country roads and it still looks clean, also no need to dry or even use car wash for that matter

Completely agree, especially with the washing/drying. You always get water marks and end up having to use a QD every time you dry.

This is a great thread.. top work..

Me and a friend just bought a sprayer and going to attempt to do his bike in orange.. but after I'm thinking of doing my A3 in yellow!

How many litres of primer/top coat did you use? How do you finish around door handles/roof strips? Did you do the door shuts?

I know that you're all excited plastidiping your cars, but one thing you have to remember is that you need to report DVLA about the change of colour of your vehicle...

YES, I know it's really stupid and sound very stupid and NOT many of us want to hear this nonsense but the truth is what I'm telling you!

While ago I tried plastidiping my S3 and bought everything needed but then I found out that you need to report to DVLA, also on the reg's history it would say the colour has been changed... :(


And be honest when comes down to selling your car, NOT many people are interested to buy a car which the colour has been changed, all they may think off and may put them off is the change of colour and they may think of an accident or something...

When it comes to buying a new car, you probably looking to buy a car that never involved in any accident nor the colour changes, least numbers of owners along with services and of course the mileage! So hope you see the point me saying that :)

L@@k I'm not saying this all to put you off doing this so, but to make you all aware of what you might end upon selling your lovely cars bros :) unless is the same colour and you plastidiping it to protect the main body work which I doubt

Well if it was the same colour then you DON'T need to report DVLA but if it's different colour/wrap then you must! In your case then you must be lucky NOT to be pulled over TBH :)

I DID get pulled over lol, I was asked about the colour, told them what it was and nothing more was said.
