Hi there all,

I'm looking into buying an A3 3.2 V6 3DR to replace my A4 Avant 1.9tdi QS and I was wondering if you could give me a few pointers. I have read the 24 page thread on the software update and read many other forums on them so have a good idea on what to look for when buying and common fault

My price range is about £4000, I really want a black 8P1 (split grille) one but a lot of them have the DSG box, I'm a mechanic to trade so not really put off by high mileage but I want to know if you recommend the DSG box over the 6 sp Manual. I have in my head that Auto's are for lazy drivers (no offence intended just my opinion) but is there any great benefits of the DSG box?

Many thanks in advance.

I have a dsg 3.2 and would definitely recommend one. As a normal auto it's good, very smooth and suits the engine, using it as a manual box is also good but i used to get a bit frustrated when it changed gear by itself so I had the gearbox remapped to give more control. Gives me the best of both worlds.

Never heard of having a gearbox remapped, how much did that cost if you don't mind me asking?
