I know there are plenty of threads on this topic but just needed to know for sure if my car suffers from the dreaded balancer shaft oil pump failures as if it does it's going in to my local garage ASAP. It's a b7 a4 2.0 tdi Quattro special edition 07 plate engine code brd. I know there are plenty answers on the forum but I can't find a definitive answer for my specific car, phoned Audi and obviously they acted like there was nothing wrong with and of there engines lol. Any experts out there help please. Thank you

Any B7 2.0TDi can be affected, but the only way to find out is to strip it down and check it out.

I have the 170 BRD, stripped it down, found the hex key to be rounded which would lead to eventual break down. oil pump balancer shaft replaced with remanufactured one with 100mm hex key.

Hi and thanks.macdoon this is what I feared. I know ours aren't chain driven so I'm presuming I just need the remanufactured hex key to sit properly in housing of balancer shaft. Can you advise me where I can get this done please and rough cost. Cheers fella.

any contacts as to where I can have this done. Cheers

I got mine from KMB Sheffield and had my mate do the work

I'm in the Portsmouth area but willing to travel for my peace of mind. Thanks

I would contact KMB as per Macdoons recommendation and ask them if they have a contact/agent in your area who has done the work?
Failing that you could always have your Audi Stealer do the job (like I did) but it will cost you !

Looking at kMB website they only supply the parts. Anyone know how many hours labour you are looking at to carry out the work?

The Audi timecard for the chain driven BLB unit is 9.0 hrs . The other engine codes are shown as 5.0 hrs
Well done Rhodesy you win the raffle !

Biggest challenge is getting clearance to remove and re-fit the sump. Unfortunately the subframe needs dropped / engine raised to gain decent access.
