Hello Everyone im new here, forgive me if this issue has been previously resolved if you can direct me in the right direction it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone in Advance for reading my post. I've got a audi a3 2.0tdi bkd engine 2004. I have lost all power steering and the red steering light comes up on dash along with traction control and abs lights. I've checked all fuses seem ok tried having it reset with vcds and it brings up below errors. I think it maybe the power steering assist module on the rack if anyone can confirm this please. I will require Steering rack Part no 1k2423051ac do u still have that rack? After speaking to audi dealers they confirm newer rack upgrade to this is 1k2423055k.

Please help and tell me what you think VCDS data below

Oh gosh, my eyes!! wall of text.

My mate had this issue on his Tdi, he needed the rack and servo for the steering. The rack he got from GSF with part ex for his old one and the servo he had to get from Audi. Needs coding aswell I believe. I think in all he paid around £750 :(

He was told these are a common issue...

The servo? Is that for the abs? Or the electric module on rack?

Module on the rack. I dont understand why they didn't just use a pump/fluid. :(

Thank you for the quick response best,
I had a gut feeling its gona need a new rack
Rang audi in bradford and the quoted me 909 pound thats extortion
Ive tried quite a few local breakers and they have racks rangining from 70 to 300
But non of them codes fully match the last two letters are always different
Looklike i nedd to keep looking for second hand one i cant afford to oay almost a grand for rack
Do u know of any decent audi breakers?
Thank you once again

Nope sorry mate. My mate had that exact same issue. You gotta remember that the second hand rack could only last a few weeks too. At least new you will have a two year cushion...if you plan on keeping the car that long :)

This whole ordeal has made him consider switching to a Civic 2.2

Your quite right its a risky job with a second hand
Ive heard people can recondition rcks and module may thats a better option
Read a post earlier stating its about 350 to recondition and will come with a guarantee
Just need to be sure its the cause so im not splashing money for something thats ok

I'm sure GSF did his rack for around £150 with his rack as part ex. Its the module that's expensive and you can only get them from Audi.

If you find a place that can recondition the whole lot please let me know, be handy to know if the worst does happen :)

There is somebody who does them in rochester charges 35 to check rack and if faulty 300 to recondition rack and module im going to try find them and will post it if i do.
Many thanks once again

Jus been advised to check power is getting to j500 the rack module
This will establish if the rack is getting power and correct me if im wrong
If the rack module is getting power and not responding it s busted and needs replacing
If ut is not getting any power then there could be a beeak in the circuit
And will need to follow back to see where the current is being lost.

Thanks nhn your a star will do this and post back results

Update
I can cinfirm the code dies not nedd to match
I have just obtained a rack n module from a 2011 audi a3 part num 1k2423051cj
This psrt code is different to mine however is the new updated rack
The rack took two hours to remove and two hours to fit
Quite a easy job for a experienced mechanic
Power sterring works and fully operational
If upgrading rack to newer you will need short wiring on rack.

hi hoping you guys can help me, I have recently purchased a 2.0 tdi bkd a3 2004 model, had it 2 weeks and its now lost all steering :(

I have got the steering wheel symbol on dash, all fuses are intact and its getting power to the module.

what do I need to fix this issue, according to tps its £964 for everything!! I just cant afford that.

according to them my car has the 1K2423055KX STEERING RACK

any help would be appreciated!!
