Hello peeps, I was trying to write in the RNS-E theft section, but it wouldn't post, so this is the reason i posted new topic.
last night had my car broken into, took the unit out, was a quick job, 12.15AM last night, I herd a smash of the window, got out of bed to check my car through the window and I see a silver Nissan primera looked like 2001 model speeding off (all done within space of about 5 seconds literally from smash of the window to seeing the car take off) unfortunately, I couldn't get the registration plate.
I live in Milton Keynes close to Newport Pagnell, if anyone knows the area... autoclass now replacing passenger window but its £75 excess and a nav unit loss I could have done without as my tax and mot is coming up within next few weeks, to top it off, i dont think insurance will pay as I put the RNS-E before I moved insurance company and did it all online with direct lne, only read small print today which says wont cover modified.

so if anyone sees a RNS-E mk2 (gloss black) for sale please make sure its not a stolen one, serial number for my unit was AUZBZ7K6102820

there are some real scum people out there and cant really afford to put another nav unit in, although dont think i want to now either.

Cheers, Manni

Not again, ***, sorry to read this fella.

Insurance should cover it as its an oem part & I wouldn't say that's considered modified, just don't advise it was fitted afterwards, see what they advise.

Was gutted when I saw it, as soon as I saw my alarm go off I pretty much gathered that my unit is gone, i called insurance company started the claim but iput it on hold for now for the claim, I didn't realise that it's gonna effect my no claims also that my premium will go up too next year! Anyone who's claimed for this do u have a rough estimate if effected how much your premium went up by if any? I'm just tryin to weigh the cost out between buying second hand or just do through insurance.
thanks

It probably isn't worth it as the claim will stay for 5yrs.

Gutted for you pal.

Depends on what your voluntary excess is, i take it you don't have NCB protection?

Cheers mate.
It's 0 vaulantry excess only compulsory of £150. Well I've got 0 no claims bonus at mo but was really hoping to build em up only had bout 4 months left before renewal.

crap to hear such a thing mate, hope it gets resolved happily for you!

Cheers guys, think im gonna call em tomorrow put a claim through and hope for the best

Sorry to here that i'm local to you so rinse is out of the question now.

Is there no way to secure these a bit better... or just a case of anyone with keys and its a 5 minute job...

surely someone more intelligent than me can come up with added security for these to dter these morons... a simple mod surely... i'm gonna have a look into this a bit further and see if I can come up with something for the masses......

Ive had the money sat here for 6 months thinking about buying one....but after reading all the stolen posts & just thought it wasnt worth the hassle.....if theres any way of protecting them i'd change my mind......sorry to hear this Manni....****** theiving scum :-(

I'm thinking off the top off my head....

You can get access to the rear of the unit via underneath the dash.. you only need to take 3 bolts out to remove that...
cable tie round the back of the cables then another through it and onto the bar at the bottom of the dash... that way you'll not be able to pull the unit foward if secure, even with the keys, without taking the lower dash apart to cut the ties... that way you'll have more time to get out and chase the fkers away with a weapon of your choice and will only need to fork out for new glass....

easy, cheap and inexpensive mod for anyone to do and saves having to fork out the expense on a new unit aswell as the glass....

opinions?

I might do this anyway and post a wee thread up about it... should easily be a 15min job for peace of mind

pees you of that people think they can take what most people work hard to go out and buy !

might not be a way to stop them stealing it but a way to catch them if the police are onto them , i have thought about removing the unit and cover the backside of the unit in smart water as pretty much all stations have a scanner might not stop it from being taken but will help catch them

audi should have made them harder to steel by patching them into the immo or ccm to ask for a unique reference number. is not simple i know but not that hard to implement when designing a car in the grand scheme of things

So early today told insurance to proceed with claim, waiting for garage to contact me where apparently my car will need to go onto for them source a new stereo (if it's successful) and fit it in, bit strange I thought that they wanna take my car into a garage for this. Just gotta want and see now what happens
