Hi guys,

Basically this is the S3 I was after as my second car, however seems too good to be true but still need your opinion if its worth the money!

Here is the link: j17 onc | eBay

Asking price is 10k,
It has FSH
HPI clear,
Colour is metallic red,
2 owners,
Has been remapped to 340,
Mileage is 73k, but have had new engine fitted by Audi (comes with all the receipts...) already confirmed this with the seller,

One weird thing about this S3 is that it comes with normal A3 steering wheels as opposed to the flat bottom ones...
Not sure if this is the case for all S3,
Currently considering as my seoncd car as I'm sharing my current S3 with my girl, however she uses it most of the time... so though this seems a bit cheap and may worth considering...

Also asked the seller on eBay and confirmed that have NOT been involved in any accident, however one you guys may be the owner of the car, however if you're then I didn't want to be disrespectiful or anything, just wanted to asked other experts here to give some advice!

Cheers guys, as always appreciate all helps :)
Hope you all had a good weekend :)
Thanks

Remapped to 340? What's the supporting mods, who done it Etc

Swear I saw this advertised a few months back on autotrader.

check with audi if they actually did carry out all that work and what warranty it has

Dont know what it is but i get a feeling it's dodgy also the member has no feedback as a seller !

Lol @ location : Red Car

very ironic

although car could be fine, go check it out? Do a quick hpi check as well on it to make sure before you commute that far.

Not all S3's had fbmfsw's as standard, so this isn't necessarily any tell tale signs of anything.

Thank you guys!

My current S3 is 57 reg and has 80k on the clock, but it had 65k at the time and 1 former keeper, and bought it for 15k from a dealer, all cash, this is like 5 months ago, however I think I could have better deals with that money but because I was in rush then I couldn't wait any longer! And that wait due to losing all of my no claim discounts...

Very pleased with my current one, everything superb...

Now it's been a while looking for a new S3, something like my current one but a bit less on price, my budget is 12~13k however NOT sure if I should go for newer reg like 09 which is probably about 17k and have it on finance from a dealer...

Not sure if it's gone worth the money...
Or should I wait for another 2~ months and but it right after new year as I believe the prices would drop anyway! Or I may be wrong!

Just a quick question;

Should I buy S3 on fiance and going for the newer reg...?

or

Should I buy something like my current one... ?

Cheers :)

Something doesn't seem quite right to me with that advert and me personally would leave well alone..

A couple of things.. The fact the car has had a full new engine in the 1st place concerns me and an owner quoting figures of 340hp, without a full stage 2 then not possible... if my car was stage 2, i'd make every mod known in my advert as it would be worth talking about.. The feedback as a seller is nothing really...I've bought loads of things through ebay, but never sold on it and I would be a genuine seller so don't take any notice of that, its just pot-luck who the seller is

As for Flat-bottom... for pre-58 reg cars, this was a factory upgrade and didn't officially come as standard until the face-lift model...

What car to go for? If your happy then why not get another 1 within your budget.. Search autotrader or pistonheads, theres loads of decent 1's to choose from... But then again if you go for a facelift 58+ model, it has a lot of uprated features from the pre-face model... next gen haldex system, drl's interior switches etc.... All depends on how much you want to spend really!

As for the car advertised, I personally wouldn't touch it, but thats just me

Hmmm! I live near Redcar but haven't seen it, the reg. would have caught my eye!

Manufacturer's warranty until 2015 seems good, though?

Ring Audi Teeside ask for the service department, they might tell you why the car needed a new engine also I would check the mileage also why would you take photos with a filter on ?
I would walk away.

Well it doesn't say anything about being remapped to 340bhp now! Stay away from it!

I would think the warranty would be void by the engine mods though.

Thank you guys, really appreciate your helps! Did as said, called Audi and checked every bit of the car before bidding and looked like they were totally unaware of such thing...

So seems something dodgy is going on...
Either he must have replaced the engine by local garage just to get rid of the car or done it by himself though!

I'm glad that didn't bought the car, but unfortunately another poor guy bought it for 9,100k presumably there are NOT aware this...

Appreciate all of your helps guys :)

How much do you guys rekon I should be paying for a S3 07/08 reg with not more than 60k on the clock and probably not more than 2 former keepers... along with FSH...???

I've been looking around and they all seem to be around 15k, same as the one I got about 6 months ago!!!
I didn't now S3s keep up their values like this... well at least much better than any other Audi models...

What do you guys reckon?
Cheers

Id get a post 58 plate one, everyone on here seems to suggest so for the extra couple of £k.

That white facelift is quite cheap given the age, spec and mileage. I would also go over that with a fine tooth comb also.

that seems more suspect than the 1st 1 to me, the 1st 1 maybe at 10k cus guy sick of it after all engine trouble and wanting rid of it after repairs?

that one there imo should be few grand more+ haha

I'm sure i've spied that 1... is it not a cat D?

Yep it looks too good to be true but it's a dealer and NOT private seller, I'll give them call and view the car first!

What should I be aware of!!!!!!?????, obviously I currently have S3 but the pre-facelift ones and this is totally different to 07 reg!

Cheers guys

Well I asked the guy about couple of things, but totally were amazed about the car and forgot to asked about it's HPI status.... haha
It's on AT, will call them again tomorrow to see what they say...

What if it's CAT-D...
Is it still worth it...

:)

I'm positive thats a cat C or D... cat cars are not always bad... people tend to stay away from them because of the value, but there could be quality repairs on them... obvioulsy the car will never be worth full value when you come to re-sell it

Depends what caused it to become Cat D. Could of been stolen recovered with minor scuffs or it could of had damage that was repaired improperly by some random person on the cheap... you never know.. unless there is evidence to support a story. You may also struggle to have it insured as apparently some insurance companies refuse to insure cars that are write offs.

At least do a full vehicle check and if you still want to go ahead and buy it i would suggest a full point inspection by someone who knows what they are doing and looking for. You could negotiate the price based on the outcome of the inspection if you wished or walk away knowing that you have only lost 150-200 quid instead of having to foot a large bill or unable to sell on for the money you paid for it.

With that spec and mileage that has to be a cat C or CAT D for me, if it's not then it's worth more like 18.5K

Cool!
Yep probably CAT-D if not C, I don't mind go for CAT-D as long as I know what part of the car involved and NOT the chassis damaged!!!

However not all the S3s out there are totally accident-free and some people tend to repair it themselves and sell it afterwards as fully HPI clear!!!

Is there any way to find out what section of the car been involved in the accident! I mean if it has been the bumper then obviouly not a problem as comparing this to other ones is about 4k cheaper!!!

Never bought CAT-D cars before so NOT sure what to check and if it comes with any docs at all to confirm it's been repaired and such...!!!

Thanks

Initially I would do a HPI check to see if anything is flagged on it.. if there is, then I would also ask the dealer seperately without disclosing the information you have, to see if they are upfront and genuine... you would be able to tell straight away if they are a trusted seller..

Personally I wouldn't touch a cat c, and only go for a cat D after a full inspection.. If you get any paperwork regasrding the full inspection then keep it for later re-sell ans what your saying is true... you can never tell a full history of a car even a brand new car from the dealership might have had a prang in transit... but what you do know is that you'll not struggle with insurance companies because the other cars havent been formally listed as this...
