TFSI Engine; What type of unleaded petrol to use ?

Just canvassing opinion on which type of unleaded petrol TFSI owners currently use for their cars...

I currently own a 1.6TDI and it gets the cheapest diesel I can find (Asda).

When I get my 1.4 CoD, I 'm not too sure. The manual states 95 RON which means all types of unleaded.

Being a tight wad, I don't think I will bother with the likes of V Power as they are more for performance engines.

So it's a case of normal Shell Unleaded or Asda Unleaded ....
 
On my old (cheap, non-performance) hatchback I switched to the premium unleaded a while ago and did notice a lot smoother running engine, better performance and better economy. You'll only be able to tell if it works once the engine has been run in but its worth giving it a go. I really noticed when I put regular unleaded back in occasionally when I didn't have a choice!
 
My previous car would take 95 RON, but recommended 98 RON for best performance. So I mostly used to use Tesco Momentum. I think it gave a big enough improvement in economy to justify the price difference.

With my new 1.4 COD I'm just using standard 95 RON and so far it's running beautifully. Just getting out of the running in phase now and love the engine. Might try the occasional tank of premium, but more for the additives than the higher RON.
 
Since owning the Subaru I have always used "super" or "V Power" or whatever performance fuel is available due to the cleaning properties of the fuel. They will keep your engine running at its best.
My mechanic friend has always told me to avoid supermarket fuel as although its cheap its not as well refined so it fouls up the fuel system quicker.
 
Cheap supermarket fuel and pay the price..
Stick with the garage prices, as you will find the MPG will be less with the supermarket fuel, if running diesel there is a chance of Biofuels being used with is a NO NO on the new diesel engines

I have 1.8 petrol. Have always used either Shell or BP fuels and every other fill is a premium fuel such a as V-Power. Not sure if it does any good, but as I only do 4000 or so miles a year (lot of short runs though), not a big impact on finances. I generally concur what everyone has said, stay away from the cheapest fuel if you can.

Supermarket fuels are just as refined. They have to meet the same quality standards which are much stricter than many countries. They come from the same refineries, just with different additives. The reason they are cheaper is because the supermarkets don't have to make a profit on them because it's not their primary business.
 
Yeh, it's all mostly scaremongering from the other garages that are trying to put you off buying them. It all comes from the same refineries...
 
I'd say this issue is even more contentious than the SE vs. Sport suspension question! I've only filled my car up once so far, however it drunk Shell V-Power which is how I intend to continue.
 
Additives are added at the tanker fill, so not all fuel is the same. If you remember top gear did the test and supermarket fuels were behind the garages MPG
 
I've heard that Sainsbury's is the same as BP anyway, and Sainsbury's is where I fill up!
 
I only use Tesco momentum. I know a couple of lads from Ginetta which is based round the corner and they say Ginetta only use Tesco momentum for their cars and some even use it for racing. Personally I do get more MPG on this esp on long runs, and my 2.0tfsi engine runs noticeably quieter.

Plus I get club card points 😁
 
I couldn't agree more with you. And I also got told the same thing from an inside link. The additives is what makes the big difference. Shells 95 octane gives me 10 more miles on 25£ worth of petrol and that's a fact.
