NO S3 Sportbacks being delivered in the UK before December?!?

I would urge those of you who have got confirmed orders in for S3 Sportbacks to get delivery and or build dates confirmed with your dealers after a deeply irritating afternoon in conversation with my dealer.

I had, until today, a confirmed build week of 39 for a manual S3 Sportback. This has now been bumped to build week 4 2014, and my dealer, who was suitably apologetic and embarrassed, told me that the demand for sportbacks has meant that there will be no S3 Sportbacks in the country before December earliest. I placed my order at the start of July so either the dealer fouled up and only just placed the order, or there are going to be some equally annoyed prospective S3 owners around the forum!!

I'll be interested to hear what responses people get back from their contacts.

Hi RRB,

I ordered my car (almost exactly the same as yours) on 24 June, I was initially told build week 41, which then got updated to week 39 (all within a month of ordering). I also had an update message from the dealer on 27 August saying there had been no change.

I emailed my dealer a couple of hours ago, saying that I'd seen a forum message from someone who'd just been told their build week was pushed back to next year, and could she please double-check mine... I'll keep you posted on her response.

brgds

There is a S3 Sportback demo in Aberdeen already, but perhaps they released a few for dealer demo's?

I'm build week 47 for my order (jumped onto a dealer order), don't mind waiting though - will just have to keep the S5 a little longer!!!! Mine is an S Tronic, will be interesting to see if there is a difference between manual and auto.
The longer the wait the less chance of getting the car and immediately being surrounded by snow, ice and salt.......

Misano Red, S Tronic, Red leather inserts, Adaptive cruise, Nav I think.
I took it out twice weekend past.
Then placed my order.

I'm sure demos are available Craig, and we know from our continental posters that the cars do exist. It just seems you can't actually have one yourself until December earliest if you're in the UK. Pretty amateur of Audi UK to allow dealers to confirm build weeks in the 30s if they have no ability to honour them.

Have you confirmed 47 with your dealer recently? That would put you at the front of the queue if the assertion I got from my dealer is true concerning no S3SBs until December.

Cheers

Been reading this thread with much interest as (still) trying to negotiate with dealers and decide what to do about a S3 SB.

So for a few weeks now the two dealers I'm discussing it with had been quoting a build towards end of November with a delivery either early next year or they were potentially happy to hold the car for couple of months until 14 number plate.

Oddly they have been very cagey so far about coming down to a final figure in respect of trade in (A1 185 BE) and discount - I suspect driven by these supply issues. BMW are 6 weeks for a 135i......

Im now wondering if it might be a good idea to hold off ordering until this time next year (once the initial rush has died down). Also if following Audi trends, a Black Edition is launched 12 months after the model launch then I would probably prefer that as they work out good value.

7 months is a very long time to wait.....and I'm impatient!

A friend of mine whom I use to work alongside said he picks a S3 SB Stronic in November after Audi put a few S3's on the company car lease list. He has a VW Passat at the moment with millions of miles on.
He originally was going for a Q3 but was told the quota had gone so he opted for the S3 instead.

placed my order for the S3 sportback in June with a build week of 41 so looking at end of october delivery spoke to my dealer today and my build week has come forward to 40, I also know of a few other guys who are taking delivery of there S3 sportbacks in october, so i dont belive of any delays on the S3 sportback untill after december, it sounds like your dealer has messed up the order, hope you get it sorted !

Perhaps I'm a pessimist! But as eta s3 sb end of October with no update I'm currently between a accept a possible March 14 delivery or possible cancel and never darken the door of an Audi dealer again. Perhaps if enough walked away Audi customer service might improve. I watch posts with interest.

Right, I just had an email reply from my dealer...

My car is still on the system as build week 39 (week commencing 23/09/13), so I may have to revert to my previous thinking that Wimbledon Audi, or perhaps somewhere in the Audi matrix, have made a bit of a **** up, and are spinning you a line RRB.

Feel free to quote my case to them when you speak - if you want any more details, just let me know.

David

Thanks for the update David. I'll be having a conversation with Audi Wimbledon tomorrow then, especially since "my" car was supposed to be being built alongside yours the week after next!

Agreed that there has obviously been a snafu somewhere in the system so I'll give the dealer a chance to explain themselves before I think about asking for the deposit back and walking. Given that I live down the road from the dealer it's no trouble to turn up on their doorstep and have a rather public tantrum if I'm not satisfied with either their answer or their proposed solution. They were quick enough to take the deposit and get the finance deal arranged, so lets see if they are equally responsive now that it seems something has gone awry somewhere.

It's taking the gloss off the experience somewhat but hopefully they'll be some movement so I'll keep people posted.

Hi RRB,

How did the conversation go with Wimbledon Audi? Are they still asserting that no one is getting their S3 SB this year?

Hope it comes to a satisfactory conclusion.

David

Hi David,

Had my contact on the phone yesterday. No movement on the new dates following a chat with his sales manager, and aren't able to offer an interim solution (courtesy car or the like). Have been offered "discounted gap insurance" as a token but that's really not cutting it for me.

I'm going into the dealer on Saturday afternoon to have a f2f discussion and I'm seriously considering pulling the order at the moment as, while I can appreciate it might not be my contact's fault if it was an admin foul-up somewhere in the system, the fact that they have arbitrarily doubled the time taken for the car to be delivered is unacceptable when it is apparent other people are successfully picking up their new S3s as planned. With their revised timeline it might be faster to see if any other dealers can beat it since I've seen people talking about picking up orders placed recently at the end of the year!

The saga continues...

Just placed order for S3 today - now waiting for my build date. Not too happy having read comments on here.
