hi ive got a avant quattro with the bose system the radio works ok but the cd doesnt work it comes up with cd error and makes a noise like its trying to read the cd? any ideas , it does have a aux lead in the dash so thats 1 bonus i suppose , could i get another unit or will it need programming in.

What car do you have mate?

With you having an AUX lead in the dash on a 2002 car I would be concerned about how that is connected. The AUX may be connected on the CD changer input as the 2002 HU does not have an AUX facility. So your CD changer may be perfectly OK but the AUX wiring could be interfering with it's operation.

Yes I have to press the changer function for the aux to work .but its the headunits cd thats not working .where would the changer normally fit on this car its an avant ?

Ah ok, so is it a concert II single CD player or a symphony II 6 CD player and a tape deck?

The external 6 CD changer would be in the glovebox if fitted, but sounds like you don't have one and the setup is the Radio/CD in the dash/Aux interface.

Im wondering how easy it would be to upgrade im wanting to play my cds not bothered about the aux lead .also if I put a lets say pioneer halfords special in would the bose amp and sub still work

I can fit a 6 CD in place of the AUX, I can probably replace the radio as well with a new one, whereabouts are you?

Adding a 3rd party radio will work, but you will lose certain things like the DIS radio display, lighting.

just an update s8craig ive taken my cd out of the dash and to my dissmay the unit was full of coins i got 30 p out in 5s 2s and 1s , ive popped a cd in and hey pressto it works but when its been on for 2mins or so it wont let me crank the volume up it just cuts out and wont come back on until i switch off and back on , if i can get it working proper i wouldnt swap the unit for a halfrauds special , any clue ?
oh im in dronfield near sheffield

what a fool i am ha ha , it was the battery that was flat after all that , thats why it was cutting out ,,,just 1 more question whats the green plug for in the middle of the headunit at the back on its own , is it a display wire because there doesnt seem to be any track number or radio station on my speedo head?

Green? There should be 4 sockets on the back of your radio, 8 pin power, 8 pin speakers, 20 pin mini ISO and 10 pin TEL/NAV. The display wires are part of the 20 pin connector, as someone has fitted an AUX port on the back of your radio they sometimes come with a green/blue/yellow plug that makes up the 20 pin connector. I'm guessing the green might be used for the can bus wires. Does your radio turn on/off with the ignition and does the illumination work. These wires are need for the display and the other bits I mentioned.

ive only got 2 plugs plugged in ive got 2 empty . ive got the power and the big red speaker one that has loads in 20 or so , thats it? , the empty one has pictures of speakers on with 4 terminals inside and the other empty says tele mute etc etc.
my red 20 pin one goes to a connects 2 that ive found with the aux fitted if i can find a pic ill post one
im just wondering why ive no speedo display , its low on fuel would it be there when the lamp goes out? the red bits are where my plugs are , you can see the green plug in the middle.

The middle bit is the canbus wires which do the display. So that must be connected to the radio for the radio stations/illumination/ignition to work correctly.

after running the unit for a few months i still want to put my pioneer usb mp3 player in to it , a recap ive got a audi a4 quattro with a bose single din concert 2 installed that used to have a multi changer in the dash , im wanting the correct lead for the pioneer to connect to the audis wiring , im wanting the amp and sub to work still , not bothered about the dis display etc , and i dont have steering controls , can anyone point me in the direction of what lead i need please. theres loads out there
