Hey guys!!

So... After thinking about it for a while, im tempted to move from my current 1.8Tfsi Black Edition A3 to the new A3 shape... Had my current A3 for around 18months now and starting to get bored. I keep looking at the A5 and then thinking I don't need a bigger car. I'm trying to save for a house so have downsized on the engine to make better use of the cheaper running costs. I will probably end up slapping a remap on at some point.

Anyway, here is the spec I'm thinking of:

  • S line 1.4 TFSI cylinder on demand S tronic 140 PS
  • Daytona Grey, pearl effect
  • Material: Biathlon cloth/leather with S line embossing
  • Seats: Black
  • Dashboard: Black-Black
  • Carpet: Black
  • Headliner: Black Equipment
  • Audi Parking System Plus
  • Bang & Olufsen sound system
  • Black Styling package
  • Comfort package
  • Cruise control
  • Door mirrors – electrically adjustable, folding and heated
  • Technology package with Mobile telephone preparation - High with Audi Connect
It's coming out to about £30k online which I'm sure I can get down through broker / dealer contacts...

Any thoughts on the above from current A3 owners... Anything that I should really be adding?

Thanks,

Tim

I would say add heated seats! Great for the cold winter mornings.. I have them in my current TT, and were the first thing I spec'd in the new order..

Good choice!

IF I had my time again I would like to look deeper into the panny roof (not literally)..though not sure how it would look with Daytona.....and at £30k I would EXPECT full leather (even if that means compromising on another option)

That's the thing I don't understand. Why pay 30k on a hatchback when you can go for a saloon instead?

Maybe cruiser doesn't like saloons?

It's the old question though isn't it...horses for courses and all that....£30k can buy lots of other cars but whatever 'floats ya boat'

Up until very recently I would never buy anything other than a 3dr or coupe...and therefore would spend what I could afford on that type of car.

I don't know how old cruiser is ...maybe '89 is a clue I've always seen saloons as something for the family...but I started life off with a 3dr golf gti when I was younger and have never wanted to stray from that type of car...it was only my recent small addition to the family that FORCED me into 5 doors....I will probably go back to a 3 door when she is old enough to jump in and out.(of the boot! lol)

Out of interest what would the saloon cost with that spec I wonder....

If I'm being honest I don't like the saloon shape on the A3. Looks really weird.

As moonlight says, the 89 is my DOB so with being only 24, a girlfriend and a small dog I don't have a need for anything more than 2 doors. Sure my friends moan about it when they have to clamber through but who cares :p We have just bought a new A6 for work that is on order which I could use for ferrying lots of people about.

With the prospect of buying a house and then being "Really Tied" down I still want something fun to drive on a day to day basis :D

Moonlight im lmao@her jumping in and out (of the boot, lol). You enjoying the car? Not seen you on much recently, you been moonlighting somewhere else, lol. :) x

Below is what I had on mine and out of all the extras I personally find the following most enjoyable and usefull

adaptive cruise control. superb once on the motorway just set to the top speed you want to drive to and let the car do the rest, it slows down behind cars then as soon as they pull over off it goes you can set the distance behind the person in front that you feel comfortable with and let the camera do the rest

audi hill hold assist. You won't touch the electronic brake from the start of your journey to the end really useful

lighting package a touch of extra luxury at night makes you feel all fuzzy inside, mind you the tech pack is great but you have already got that and with the weather I am using the sunroof all the time but wished it was really panoramic. I would say its on the small side when open,

enjoy your car

Audi A3 sportback S line 1.4 TFSI
Metallic Shiraz Red
Adaptive cruise control
Advanced Key
Audi Park plus
Comfort Package
Dab digital Radio
Deselect sports suspension
Audi Hill hold assist
Interior light package
Panoramic glass roof
Reversing camera
Technology Package
Through load
High beam Assist
3 year service plan
safeguard and most importantly Gap insurance

sounds great, all the black stuff comes as standard on sline apart from black styling pack which is not yet available on a3-- i agree with shilton hill hold and int' light pack are good options.

the black styling Pack (trim round windows and grill etc. not the full black edition though) has been added to the Configurator a day or so ago, I like it but £395 extra seams steep for changing to colour of some plastic. Looks better on some colours though.

Ahh i didn't see the lighting pack on the configuration!! Will definitely want that!

Adaptive Cruise also sounds good...

The reason I have waited for a while is for the Black Styling Pack... I wanted to get near as Black Edition as possible!

ha...I still check in a few times a week...it would help if I signed in straightaway as I would probably comment more...

Somewhere else! me?! never!...still loving the car...wheels seem a bit fiddly to clean though! as soon as the little one is walking she will be old enough to get her little fingers into all the grooves!...she's lucky we don't have a coal fire and a chimney to sweep!

Moonlight, out of interest what sort of mpg are you getting from your 1.4 COD?

Cheers

It aint great ...37 combined...though I have a lead shot filled sock on ..drive in dynamic mode...and 90% is town work...(.oh and drive with the windows open..air con on...hatch up...filler cap open..low tyre pressure...) and have the other half sat with me and she can be a right drag..lol...of course I'm jesting...it would be madness to leave the cap open.

Doesn't sound ideal for good economy !!! Still the COD is my preferred choice. Thanks for the info.

Best I've had is 45 on a long run....but it's a great engine....it could never compete with the diesel units but I'm guessing it compares well with the lower powered 122bhp engine and has more punch

Averaging 41mpg on my 122bhp so far (4k miles). On most trips over 12 miles I average around 52mpg. It's the short journeys that are killing my overall economy at the moment. Dead impressed with it to be honest :) I think the COD is probably a bit quicker though
