My miles till next service never decreases?

On my A3 2.0TDi, when I pull the little, um, stick thing, out, it always says 14400 miles till next service.

Say I drive 800 miles over a few weeks, then check again, still 14400, so doesnt seem to have figured out that im actually covering miles, does it need a reset or something???
 
Your car must be set to Audis Variable Servicing Programme. It does depend how carefully you drive. So if like me, you scud it everywhere you will find the service indicator will drop quite quickly!!
 
Thats what I thought, but since owning the car, its indicated 1400, and it still does about a month or so after.
I drive it quite spiritedly, so would expect a slight drop at least???

TDI's seem to need servicing at approx 18k miles (despite Audi insisting that they can do up to 30k miles.)

Didn't even know this existed! Pulled my little stick thingy out (oh er misses!) and I have 14200 or 706days!!! Is this bad considering I've only put 1800miles on the clock since i've had it??????

What's the regular service intervals?

If your car is not set to Variable Service Interval then it's an Oil Change/Inspection service at 10k and a Service at 20k.

New A3s leave the factory set for the Variable Service (AVS) and filled with the appropiate longlife oil.

If the car is set for AVS then the 1st AVS will generally be due around 18-19k.
 
Cool, ill keep an eye on it, was just surprised to not see it drop from 14000 (not 1400 as I out in original post).
Not complaining thou, guess the cars happy enough, thou if in a few months its still showing the same, may stop by Audi and ask them why my car seems to have a fear of servicing.
 

You say 1800 miles since you've had it, is that from new?

If so, then it's not really enough miles to get an accurate figure, since there'e not the history there.

Mine started at around 12,000 new, then it gradually went up as I reached 5-600 miles, until it steadied at 17,500 (with 10k on the clock) where it stayed until I reached 17.5 and had a service.
 
Nope, its got 43000 miles on it, and since I bought it, ive done approx 1000 odd miles in it.
It said 14400 miles till next service when I bought it, and has never changed, I wouldve expected it to drop or increase slightly in that time (had it about a month), but it hasnt.
 
For the first 500 miles after the service the indicator reads ---, then over those 500 miles it works out how many miles till you next service.
If you do one 500 mile trip at 60mph it will probably say 25,000 miles, however, if you do those 500 miles all as short, cold start or city driving it may say 12,000 miles.

You may find that yours first read 14400 miles and since then you have been do the sort of milage that gives you a higher service gaps, meaning you are waiting for it to drop down below 14400, this may not happen for another couple of thousand miles. Take it out and thrash it for the next 500 miles and I bet it soonn drops!

My first 500 miles were all short runs and it said 12300 when it came up, since than I have done 2000 miles of steadyish driving and it still says 12000 miles.

There was a pdf somewhere with how the service computer works it all out, on a diesel it starts at 24,000 and then something like 4 miles is knocked off for every mile driven while the engine is not at optimum temperature, 3 miles knocked off for every mile in traffic, 2 miles knocked off for every mile done over 3500rpm and then only 1/2 mile knocked off for every mile travelled under 2000rpm.

That is not exactly right but it was along those lines and it became easy to see how you can go from 24k miles between services to only 15k miles between services.
