Hi Guys,

Thought I'd share this with you.

Installed Carbon Air intake for my 2.0 TDi couple of days ago and loving the the looks of it and the whooshing sound, it sounds more once the engine is warm. In gaining I don't see much of difference except to be little more responsive when accelerating.

They're crap, trust me, number of issues with these as tested myself & returned, 2 manufacturers, Carbonspeed are one & Carbonio are other, basically the same product from ****.

These issues may have been looked at by now, doubtful. although I reported these all to The Performance Company, the uk seller for Carbonspeed, they did sweet fa about it in 1-2 months of knowing the issues, useless company!!!!

1: The bracket that holds it has 1 rivet that snaps, useless fixing.
2: The bracket has rubber parts around it to stop it wearing into the carbon, these slip of & the bracket becomes loose & starts to wear into carbon & probably contributes to the rivet snapping.
3: Rear Carbon part that screws to the main housing doesn't have any seal at all, has gaps around.
4: The vacuum pipe fixing has a stupid rubber grommet, which when the brass vacuum fixing is pushed in, the grommet can become dislodged, come out & when fitting the vacuum pipe onto the brass part it can react the same, the brass fixing should be bonded in place permanent.
5: The rear jubilee clip that fixes the flexy to the carbon pipe is right on the edge & when done up could easily damage/crack that part, reason why this is so close is because the stupid positioning of the vacuum connection, its far to close to te edge of the rear pipe & thus leaves very little space to fix flexy onto.
6: The far left corner of main housing rubs on the pipework, thus damaging the resin/carbon & the pipe starts to wear, even worse when the bracket rivet fixing breaks.

I offered to QC & help get the product to a suitable condition so no issues, they wernt interested & knowing the issues still sell it to market with them, which is poor.

Ive had the remap for about a month now, I should have done that long time ago.

NHN, some of your points that you have stated I have fixed them to secure the box and other things around it and also the bracket that has rubber parts around it that can easily come off , and I know what you meant and agree with you went through it. But If it's secure properly/ modify with rubbers around the delicate areas then you should't have problems with it.

That's the point though, you don't pay £250 for an intake like this to have shoddy design elements let it down, these really are obvious issues that any person with logic & common sense should of seen & addressed, but as usual, its a case of make it look pretty & they will come, unfortunately until they take these things seriously, I will always put negative feedback for this product, its just poor man, very poor.

Also, had no effect on my intake systems, I run a custom map with hybrid so perfect example to test on & found it made no difference at all, looks nice but not really functional & very badly designed in areas where it should be of a high standard.

I'm now awaiting Forge to work with me on testing a CDA style intake with grill adapter, we're just awaiting the piping etc which takes weeks to process through.

LOL full-force NHN purchase slap-down ... would not like to be on the receiving end of this; A refund would be sought asasp.
 
I think it's worth my £200 to be honest, I like the sound of it and the response from the pedal. The fixing points that NHN stated you can fix those and have no problem, will give you a nice sound for those that got a diesel cars and it does look nice. As long as you install it properly won't be an issue for me, I understand this wasn't designed for exactly for the A3 but it fits OK.

You know what ****** me of so much about this, was the absolute diabolical lack of interest in resolving the problems, TPC for me are a company I wont ever recommend or deal with again, let alone the almost stoned interest by someone on the end of the phone, sounded like he had been chasing the dragon all day until I got annoyed.

After a month or so waiting for them to deal with the issue, they just replied, send it back for refund, so basically they did sweet fa in all that time to resolve the issues raised, the reseller was brilliant as always, not his fault at all, cannot praise him enough for his help/work as always.

I find it poor of any company that doesn't take up people who are willing to test there products & feedback data to improve/fix issues, even if they paid for the item.

To compare, I went to Kris@forge, the guys a saint, companies a hell of allot more helpful & offered to work with me to test a system, the difference in the 2 companies couldn't be further apart & to date my experience since my S3 8L days from 2001 onwards has always been the same from recollection, they want to get people with ideas for parts in this sector & will go out of there way to help/make it happen, as for them its a plus to have more variety & at the end of the day its cheaper for them overall & better for feedback from real life scenario's in use.

As for it looks & sounds good so worth it, yeah when its under the bonnet & nobody can see it, these types of parts have to be functional & I noticed no difference whatsoever between stock intake & this, so it didn't live up to expected, each to there own.

thanks god you dont liek it i thought it looks amazing and sounds amazing but if theres no incease then in my opinion a waste of money but as you have written forge is making one im very interested in there one will you be able to supply if we do group buy im sure few others will be interested

Agree with NHN here; you dont pay £200 and then spend your own time and money fixing issues which should never exist in the first place!

the stock intake system is a joke and I welcome any revision. For now I'll stick with my ITG panel filter
 
Rhyso, you'll be surprised to know, the stock intake is actually very good, tests done on stock filters over on tdi forum shows it flows as well or better than the aftermarkets :)

Standard paper filter ftw, for years now this has been pretty much obvious in most tests I have read. Not sure how companies still sell these 'performance' filters with the amount of comments on the net rejecting their bhp 'gains' claims!

I have to say, its true what you say, but the BMC CDA is good because it's a very good direct intake feed, but the connection to the grill sucks or more like is non existent, which is where me & Forge are trying to improve along with there own system, I hope :)
 
I just think the original box is restrictive as it goes into that U bend first then it comes into the air box if the U bent wasnt there and came straight i to the box it would be much better

I had the BMC CDA on my TT and it did sound great along with the full Miltek I had! Really miss those noises running a TDI now :(
 
Its fitted to our 3dr, it works well with the hybrid, but needs proper grill connection.

That u bend is a very functional piece, stops water from getting through. My experience with fluid dynamics makes me think its not all that bad, the bend in the pipe isnt severe enough to disrupt airflow within the pipe. And what u also need to take into consideration is that when ur on the move ur pretty much ramming air into that small area. I dont think its restrictive at all. Manufacturers, especially audi, wouldnt engineer a poorly functioning intake system, especially now with the way emissions standards are. The better the intake system is the more efficient the car will be

Considering what uve said about the standard filter being as good as if not better than most aftermarkets im quite interested to see/hear how this intake system will differ. Im guessing the forge guys are doing some proper flow tests too? Im all for filters making better engine noise, ive had bmc's on 3 cars and LOVED it! But id happily sacrifice noise for power. Whats the intake snorkel looking like?

I didn't believe i was going to get more power with this intake. But that's what i was after for more a bit of noise to kill the diesel sound. Next will be milltek system. 173 HP compare to 140 that I was before I am quite happy with the power now but as the saying goes once you have more power then the more power you want :)
