Recently purchased a dieselgeek short shift, all fitted and adjusted several times etc...

Either reverse is hard to get into with the remaining okay or 1/2/3/4 short and 5/6 very long...

Is there a way to lock the shifter in place much like the 8P?

Yes, was there not instructions with the shifter? You need to set the cable lengths.
There ia a guide somewhere, in fact forge will have the guide online for their shifter kit.

Its basically, neutral, pin on gearbox locks the shifter in place. Then in the car, gear stick is locled in place by a 5mm nail or similar, then in the bay, you unclip the cable ends where the spring is, then release and the spring clips grab the cable in the new position. Then take the locking pin out the box, and the one out the gearstick, and cycle the gears and youre done.

The pin location on the gearstick is kinda towards 2nd, you'll see once you have it apart. The dieselgeek setup is an awesome bit of kit. I now have a bit of play at the lever end I need to sort somehow though :(
