Got some black plastidip this week so thought I'd do my grille today and share the pics, I've left the rings black for now until I've had chance to give it a good wash tomorrow and see whether I like it with them black or not.

the puddle underneath is just water from the under try after washing the grille before spraying :)
mwhat are your opinions rings silver or black?

Thanks guys

Black :) I also want to spray the rings on my car black, was it easy stuff to use?

Yeah it was really easy, just put about 5-6 thin coats on and leave for 30 mins then peel off the edges.

I've just finished washing it so ill get some clean pics on, think I'm going to have to do the fog grilles too as they're a slight grey colour now compared to the middle grille but ill see how I feel later. Still unsure on the rings, I like it but the mrs isn't sure lol

I think the rings are staying black :) it looks nice now it's all clean.

I would leave the rings chrome, or dip em in matte red to stand out.
imagine the driver in front of you ,seeing a stealth front end only recognizing the four rings...

Nice one....9 times out of ten I would say go the chrome rings but on a black van ....I think it looks better black....Are the roof rails and window trim next? hahaha

Cheers
A

Ill be leaving the window trims and roof rails alu to go twith the wheels tbh, we're getting alu mirrors shortly too I just wasn't keen on the chrome around the grille :)

I really like that, def leave it black which answers my own question of leaving my new grille black. Mine is debadged tho.

Nice job, looks great, yeah I would leave it all black as well, but something appealing about the red rings as mentioned about.

I Think thats made my mind up for my Grill badge now..........

Looks awesome. I'm gonna do the same but the panel behind the number plate is getting carbon wrapped.

nice clean job i luv the black badge looks cool nice 1 fella

Did you take the grill off to do this mate or did you do it on the car?

I agree with the black rings, although I do like the idea of red rings - not seen that before

We kinda toyed with this when doing mine - I'd like to see someone go a bit radical and do a red grille on a black car.... but in the end I went with what was safe and tried and tested haha!

I was at Lakeside a few weeks ago and saw a black A3 with a red grille and red Audi badge. It was at night so only saw a glimpse but it didn't look too bad from what I could see :)

Lovin the look mate.............leave them BLACK!

+1 on doing the foglight housings to match though!

i would be interested to know this, also if the grill is left on how do you get on protecting the rads behind the grill from the plastic over spray? I really want to do mine but would like to know step by step the best way to tackle it.

I left the grille in place and just sprayed in a slightly downward motion maybe 45 degrees just to get as little on the rad as possible, it's been on around a month now and no probs with overheating etc. the main fins of the grille slopes down anyway so you don't need to get the underneath of them, there are plenty of videos on you tube with step by step guides on how to do it so just do a bit of research first and you'll be fine :)

If you're concerned about overspray, you could still mask off the majority of your grille to prevent it getting places it shouldnt - remember that plastidip peels off, so overspray isnt really the end of the world if you get it on the grille rather than just the surround.
