I was wondering if anyone could offer me a little advice about my A4. It's just clocked 100k and had a nice big service and new tyres and I'm interested in getting it remapped but can't really find much info about what gains I'd get out of it. Apparently it has already been mapped (badly) by a previous owner and so I'd want that taking off and a new, possibly custom, one put on. I don't really want to make any major changes to the car so I'm unsure about the whole de-cat thing and I'm not exactly mechanically minded. I've heard lots of good things about R-Tech in Leicester for mapping so thought I'd take it there but wanted some sensible info first. Without wanting to push it too hard, I want to feel a difference in how she drives. I do 100 miles a day on the M5 and would like to think she has a lot more power to give while improving my fuel economy (~43mpg cruising at 80mph) if poosible. Am I asking too much?

R-Tech are good, yes there will be an increase in power from stock, yes better MPG will be possible if you drive it correctly.

How much gain depending on what you have no no one can say as you current map is not standard. R-tech could do you a RR before and after if you wanted to know for sure.

Search "Remap" for lots and LOTS of threads on a similar subject. 163 bhp 2.5V6 TDI increase to approx 190bhp & 340NM to 410NM with a Stage 1 map. 180bhp 2,5V6 TDI increase to approx 208bhp & 370NM to 415NM with a Stage 1 map.

R-tech won't do you DPF/CAT while you wait, they wanted mind for a week :)wtf:) to do the DPF. They are great at mapping though

Thanks for the reply. Having never had anything mapped before, is setting it back to stock and then putting a stage 1 on it a straight forward procedure?

I dont drive the car particularly hard at all. Don't tend to go over 80 and am not one to try and drag race off the lights but it doesn't feel like it it pulls anywhere near as much as my old 130bhp Bora. There seems to be a flat spot in 4th too which is a pain.

Having owned a 2.5Tdi (A4 B6), which was mapped by R-Tech, you will notice a difference compared to stock. The turbo spools up a bit quicker so there is less turbo lag, and the power is constant (more-or-less) throughout the rev range. So rather than power creeping in at 2000rpm and petering off at 3000rpm, it starts at about 1600rpm and is there right to 4500rpm.

Usually with a stage 1 map the figures are tweaked from stock, so if you were going to an 'off-the-shelf' mapper they might struggle to tweak already altered figures (as your has already has a map). But R-tech know what they are doing, plus they have a RR to iron out any flat spots etc. Bear in mind that they will not map your car if there are any fault codes or it has any boost leaks etc, must be 100% healthy. Similarly I wasn't able to use the RR when I was there a few years ago because I had a very small oil leak, just a heads up.

You might want to check out the following site:
www.blacksmoke.co.uk
and check out one of the threads posted by RobMorris. He has a 163bhp model mapped to produce 190bhp. Looking at doing it myself, but lots of other stuff to do on mine as well.
Good luck.

Cheers, that all sounds promising.

I'm going to give R-Tech a call and see what they reckon. Have the car booked in for it's MOT on Friday so will ask them to check it for any fault codes too, just so I don't make a wasted journey to Leicester.

We've done lots of these, but if you already have a map, the gains might not be huige. it's a custom map, and I'm confident it will be better than what you have now, but there might not be a big jump in power.

Where are you based?

Rick

Well I'm thinking that what's on there at the moment is terrible so anything will me an improvement.

im based in Bristol.
