Stop paying those silly stealer/indy oil prices!

They can't refuse if it meets the manufacturers specs.

Chris, fair point, but I thought you needed to be 'in the trade' to buy from TPS and that all of their prices were +VAT?

There are 462 Halfords and 61 TPS centres, so in my case my nearest TPS is a 64 mile round trip, whereas my local Halfords is just 8 miles in total, so in that respect surely a false economy for most?

I'd question the 'genuine VAG' bit as any oil that meets the standard 507.00 standard is suitable with no issues.

I use TPS in leeds all the time just turn up and they serve you .
Never had a problem

Thanks GT, good to know if I'm ever near one! :O)

I think this is the cheapest as delivery is £5 and then an extra £1.50 for each additional item

QUANTUM LONGLIFE 3 FULLY SYNTHETIC 5W-30 | eBay

5l = £6.40 per liter
10l = £6.05 per liter
15l = £5.93 per liter
20l = £5.87 per liter

So I'll be buying 20 liters which should be enough for 2 oil changes :O)

Thanks to all!

I only said genuine VAG oil as it is what VW/Audi use for their services.

And just because it is suitable for a VAG vehicle doesn't make it the same. Most 'fully synthetic' oil isn't actually fully synthetic. Read about Royal Purple oil, very expensive stuff but its true fully synthetic.

VW/Audi IMO will use any oil that meets the specs that costs them the least. As an example Pirelli can be found to state that they specifically developed tyres for Jaguar/Porsche etc however only a small percentage of the drivers actually use the designated tyre finding that others offer better driving characteristics.

As to Royal Purple am fully aware of it's benefits as ran my XK8 on it for a number of years...partly due to me buying at cost (£5 per quart) for evaluation purposes for the Enthusiasts Club back in 2008. Am reasonably sure that they don't do an oil that meets VAG 507 though?

i run this, last can i had was £25, i change oil every 5k/3months, i used it in my passat for 140k and its still going strong now with over 200k on

MQS 5W-30 is backwards compatible with engines requiring VW 501.01, 502.00, 503.00, 503.01, 505.00, 505.01, 506.00 and 506.01.

^^^^ Incidentally how many liters do you need for a chane in a 07 3.0TDI Quattro, am guessing 10l is suffice?

8.xL IIRC... with 10L you'll have a little spare, which is handy IMO :) ... I've only once or twice needed to top up oil after having had some work done...

Now if only we could find tiptronic transmission fluid that wasn't priced in kidneys-per-litre, I'd be set! :)

Tell me about it...cheapest I can find is £20.70 a liter :ohmy:
