DPF Advice?

Hi,

The DPF on my A3 ('57 170 TDI) has just died 6 weeks before my new S5 arrives and Audi quoted just over 2 grand to get it replaced. At the moment the car is stuck in limp mode and I have to drive 40miles up the M5 everyday. Bit scary on the way home tonight crawling with the lorries...

When it died I just took it to the nearest Audi dealership and they recommended I take to the dealer I ordered the S5 from as Audi UK may cover some of the cost under good will, especially as that dealer had 'fixed' the DPF only a few months back. Anyone had any success with this or any idea how much I could get discounted?

Also any idea what it would cost at an independent?

The other option to just get the DPF removed. Can anyone recommend anywhere to get this done near Bristol? Its still fine when it comes to MOT right? Any idea how much this costs (inc resetting the fault codes and getting my out of limp)

Any help much appreciated as £2k to keep a car on the road for 6weeks isn't ideal :)

If a dealer sorted your dpf a few months back shouldn't the work they done still be covered?
 
I would personally have the DPF removed, it will be fine come MOT time aswell.

That is as useful as i can be unfortunately sorry :(
 
Not if it was just declogged as such, only if a new part was used.

See if Badger5 a site sponsor can help out as he's over that way iirc.
 
They did an emergency regen and replaced one of the sensors. The car actually died yesterday and I managed to get it to the Audi near my work who said there is a fault showing on a DPF sensor (don't know if it was the same as was replaced originally). They replaced it and let me drive back to bristol hoping the car would do the regen. It never did so took it back today and they said the DPF was beyond repair. So if I can claim it wasn't fixed correctly the first time round I guess I might have case? Plus I got a 50k car on order so I'm hoping for a bit of a discount....dont know what my chances of success are though...

I work at garage As master service advisor for Volvo, our cars run dpfs too' if it has recently been changed at an audi dealership then they should repair it free of charge. A manual regen overrides the cars response to burn of the unwanted sut. A new cat temp sensor normally cures issues of limp mode and soot filter lights (sensor and regen £180 inc) if it needs a new particulate filter (aka cat as this contains the dpf) then your looking at approx £400-£500 for the part and a book time of 1.7 hours to change inc software and testing. So your £2g quote is way over priced' also don't bother a non franchised dealer as you'll incur problems most likely as they won't run the correct software download and prob won't be able to erase the fault codes.

'new DPF sensor, software update and Regen (£48 parts plus £172 labour)


Yesterday had the same problem and Glous Audi charged me for...
A G450 Sensor and Regen (£49 parts plus £95 labour) but they didn't actually do the regen as they ran out of time :(
Took it back as none of the faults cleared and they said a new DPF would be needed at £1242 parts + 4.6 hours labour = £2034 all in...though they reckon Bristol Audi should give me a discount as they fixed it last.

it doesn't take 4.6 to change the DPF, that's a rip off, it take less than that to due a timing belt, your being misold there. Audi should be covering the costs to fix your car.
 
Awesome cheers mate! Yeah 4.6 sounded a bit steep! I'll go up there tomorrow morning and see what I can get out of them....

With the experience i've had so far with audi and dpfs, they'll blame most the faults on the dpf and go straight in for the kill n tell u to replace it. I last went there to query something and straight away he goes the dpf was blocked blah blah blah. Computer out, scan complete, dpf shows 9% blockage. Turned out to be a fubbered egr and i've been running an egr blank ever since. Despite an engine light i've had no problems and no limp mode. Does the limp mode stop everytime u turn the car on n off? And if ur handy with some tools would u consider blanking the egr to see if its that? I made my blank from a metal piece using the gasket as a guideline but theyre available quite cheap on ebay.

with u buying another car, you can pretty much screw em to the floor over this issue. The more fuss you kick up, the quicker it'll get sorted.
