Hi all,
im new to the site so hope i post this correctly!

Im looking a to replace 4 tyres on the 2.5tdi quattro sport ive just bought, the current tyres all different so handling could probably be a lot better. I have bridgestone potenza re050 on my previous 1.9 quattro and they seemed ok.

i have been pricing up goodyear f1 asy 2, michelin ps3, and uniroyal RS2. can anyone help me decide which ones to go for please? i do mostly A&B roads, twisties round where i live, so grip most important - not too bothered about how long they will last.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

I have pirelli pzero on mine and i cant fault them wet or dry the grip is there. My wheels are 19 inch and the tyres are not cheap at around 180 each. I have also tried Yokohama advan sport and they are also good but not quite as good as the pirelli. The pzeros also have a better rim protector

Cheers for the reply,
I'll have at look at those- sound pricey tho?

Would recommend the eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's as an excellent tyre.Just bought some from Camskill for my Quattro 225 to match the rears.Currently have the Bridgestone Potenza RE040 on the front...another good tyre but didn't last that long to be honest, approx. 10,000 miles with about 2mm left!Camskill have a winter fuel offer on as well, buy either 2 or 4 tyres and get £20 or £40 voucher with the F1's to be used at Tescos pumps.
Nick

Thanks Nick,
i guess its down to me now to find the best deals, mytyres are good price wise or i can get finance on blackcircles.

not used pirrelli's for years (so no idea but knowledge above says it all)
but in cost order
michelin pilot sports (just used these up but 25,000 miles+ and they are fab)
vredstein sessanta (and they just look the biz - £103 each at camskill)
falkens (about to try the new ze914's - vg fuel and grip ratings - camskill - £99.20)

all 235 40 18 on a 2.5tdi Q Sport Avant

And

Another vote for the Asymmetric 2's here..

Fitted 4 last month to my non Quattro Avant 1.9TDI and very impressed so far, I had Vred Sessanta's before which I was happy with but these are quieter and the grip is better in wet and dry. I'm sure that mpg has improved too. Sent my receipt off to claim the £40 fuel vouchers so will be a nice bonus when they arrive.

bravo for doing the decent thing and feeding your quattro four new tyres at the same time :)

Pirelli P Zero's wiped the floor with all the other tyres in the last EVO summer tyre test... and although I've not driven with them properly, that's what my local Audi are fitting to all the higher performance models.

Previous experience would say that Toyo Proxes T1-R's are pretty reliable (great grip, wet and dry, plus very progressive when they do start to let go).... Pirelli's would be the preference though.

Continental Winter Contacts are apparently pretty good for winter, personal preference is Vredestein Wintracs, although the Dunlop Wintersports are more readilly available and doing a pretty decent job on my car right now.

Can't beat a matching set of tyres , glad to see theres still some people out there who aren't total minge bags driving round on Chinese rubbish. I drive round on 4 Barums on both of my cars, excellent tyres in my opinion, think I paid about 76 quid each plus vat, and fitted them myself

To be honest all the ones you've mentioned are decent and I don't think you'd go wrong with either. The Uni Royals are supposed to be excellent in wet weather with their specially designed tread pattern.

got 225 45 17 on at moment - had 235's on my other quattro - shall i change or stick with 225? is there relaly a difference? i have read some other threads about flex, etc, but the 235's look to give more rim protection?

the 225's are more direct though so are my preferred choice

Rolling radius will change if you go from 225-235 or back, so expect your speedo and odometer to be out by a few percent.

The rolling radius will not change if you change the width of your tyre it will only change if you alter your wall height or diameter of the tyre 45 17 part to say 35 18

It WILL because the aspect ratio is a percentage of the width.

there's a sticky for this...

There's minimal difference height wise, about 4.5mm but your speedo will under read by about 1mph. I tend to go for the 225's purely because of the difference in cost.

EDIT: I tend to go for the 225's purely because of the difference in cost on 18's (so might not be so relevant on 17's).

thanks all,

I've gone for the 225/45/17 p-zero £116 a corner. Only time will tell. I'll let you know my opinion.

thanks again

Federal rsr are somthing speciallll...

Id recommend the continental sport contact 3's, i havent feel the slip once. You should expect to pay around 75 + per tire but if you can stretch that far you will be impressed! Also very hard wearing in my experience.

Unbelievable! cant seem to find the locking nut! anyone know which type they are? my sister has boiught my old a4 avant 03 so i have borrowed the locking nut from her to see if it will fit - doesnt seem to! in fact, there is one nut thats hollow but cant tell what goes in it? does anyone know? spare wheel also a 16 not 17. so may need to buy a wheel or would an 205,60,16 do for the spare?

16" should be fine, but it's 215/55/16 for the a4. Sounds like somebody got REALLY mean with the spare tyre, it's cheaper, but I wouldn't drive with that for very long at all, pretty sure your Torsen differential will be working overtime.

Cheers,I'm getting the p-zero's fitted tomorrow morning so hope the wheel nuts don't become a problem! I will get myself a 17 spare at some point! Seen others doing relatively cheap mods, blank egr, remap, b7 wipers, rs4rarb, all sound good. Only had her a week tho so gotta put a plan together and probably get a full service first + check over before any mods are done. My local guy is ex Audi so knows these inside out. He also does the remaps now so I'm gonna talk to him re getting the work done. Had slight problem starting last couple of very cold mornings, not sure why? Battery, glow plugs been mentioned on other threads so I had better get these checked.

Forgot to say - loving my new quattro 180bhp! 210 would be nice tho! Had 130 Quattro but gotta say the 2.5 feels slightly more solid and planted. Looking forward to getting new tyres on tomorrow. What do people think of aftermarket head units? The hu is playing up a little, volume is all over and radio channels not being found? Thinking of getting Denison 100 for iPhone? They sound good and easy to fit. Anyone got one?
