windows tinted.... not too happy

i own a 5 door a3 1.9 tdi sportback in black.
last week after discussing it over with the wife we decided to get the rear doors, quarterlights and back window tinted.
charged £130 which i thought was a decent price, and the guy came to my wife's place of work and picked our car up.
when i saw it (from a distance) i was very pleased but on closer inspection from around 10ft away all i can say is it screams "HEY EVERY ONE, i have had my windows tinted..... badly"
as standard, on the rear quarters there is a black tinted bubble type section around the edges and this is also on the rear screen, well this shows up through the window tint film and looks like a grey line all around the window., like its underlining a problem.
its realy bugging me, so much i'm looking at other cars to see if there as bad or if it's me been really anal over it.
anyone else had there's done and is it the same as mine ?

sounds like a bad job;- query them and get them to re-do.
 
its the bubbley bit, makes it all look like there is a grey outline around the windows, its buggin the hell out of me.

There is probably no way around this as the bubbly bits are actually part of the glass. Because they are raised, it makes the film appear lighter over it....

Correct.

This has been an issue ever since they put the black dots around screens.

I have yet to see a decent solution, the film will never properly adhere round the edges.

Only way round it is factory tinted glass as far as I'm aware.
 
Everyone is well and truly correct. No matter how good the tint is you will always see the dot matrix around the windows.....nothing can be done to prevent this. I got mine tinted and even though it has the dot matrix its as good as it will ever get unless factory tints are fitted.
 
Rub a cloth along the dot matrix to help the film bond with the glass in the gaps, can make a huge difference! But like others have sad it will never look as good as OEM.
 
It's actually air trapped under the film, normally caused by too much 'soap' or 'fairy liquid' used as a slip solution. It can also be caused by drying out the solution too quickly.

It is almost unavoidable as most have said, but can be reduced (only at time of application) by knowing what your doing!

I tinted mine myself and are almost bubble free around the dot matrix but they don't scream out I've been tinted (not visable from about 2 feet away)

I would get them to have a look & make it clear your not 100% happy

Hey chaps. The "bubbly" but around the outer edge is called the dot matrix and on VAGs are generally very bad. They are really thick and create huge problems as the window film settles around the edge of the window. If you want any advice it would be to get a soft clock or kitchen roll around e end of your finger and run it around the outside.. Generally do this on a hot day or after the car has been warmed up with the heaters. The tint company should have asked you to do this a couple of days after the tint. Allot of tiny company's use wire wool or soft sand paper to rub them down but this can sometimes cause more problems than its worth with filings from the wool and paper infecting the film showing what looks like water bubbles all over the tint (not around the outside)

why do you want a soft clock is it in case you run out of time thank god you didnt leave the l out !!
