Turbo upgrade :)

ha, I did the same. fitted in November, warmest winter on record!

I drove down to Leeds in the snow in 2010 for Christmas with F1's on which were nearing the wear indicators. Were not the best.

Got some cold weather tyres now though for when it gets chilly. Shame they have not seen any snow yet!!

After having the A4 off of the road for nearly a year due to work, life etc.. :blahblah1:

I have finally managed to throw a few new/replacement parts on and will have her running again next weekend all being well. While she's been off of the road (originally due to the head gasket) I've taken the opportunity to replace the radiator, belts, coolant elbow & sensor, a few hoses and various other parts.

My plan is now to make sure that everything is functioning 100%, install the new flywheel & clutch and then get booked in at R-Tech for a custom tune.

About ****** time....LOL

Yeah I'm really looking forward to driving it again. The L200 is good for many things but acceleration and handling are not on the list lol.

Mark - I'm aware of this thanks mate ha.

Anyway.. I'm considering going back to a diverter valve before I visit R-tech if I can route the hose back to the TIP without too much bother. If anybody finds one going cheap I'd appreciate it if you could let me know.

What's the point of swapping these to Forge etc on cars that run them as standard?.. If they can handle that kind of boost without leaking then surely it's a waste of money for most people?

Exactly, but folk like to buy the big shiney upgrade parts, even if they do nothing.

And unlike many of the aftermarket valves, the 710N doesnt leak, and doesnt need serviced.

Where do I sign?

I just need to find a way of connecting it now.

Have you moved your dv to the cold side?

I have a hose running back to the stock location to channel the air back across the bay.

Yeah it's on the cold side but the intake setup involves mostly silicone bends with very little space to get a T in. I might see if I can find a self sealing barbed connection that's the correct diameter as I've used these (but smaller diameters) for the N75 connection etc and they work really well.

I might try one of these 710N dv's. Have a duel/split one on just now but closed it in nov to just recirculate.

If yours works ok as it is then I'd keep it and save yourself some money.

Over the space of about 5 years I must've had 4 or 5 diverters and dump valves and now I'm going back to an OEM design.. could've saved £££s

I'm not using the stock TIP though so it's no easier than using the T from the cold side that's already in place.

Would look far tidier though, a nice small neat hose tucked away out of sight, rather than a dirty great pipe running across the bay.

...the project is starting again!

Have there been any major discoveries in tuning over the past couple of years that would be beneficial?

ME7.5 wideband conversion seems to be the best route about it or The A3/Golf AGU ecu if staying drive by cable just makes it have a flashable ecu rather than a chip out jobby but ME7.5 is where its at and mapping from rick @ unicorn !!

Glad to see you back lee hows the B5 doing ??

I think I'll still be going down the AGU ecu route as it seems the least problematic; I'll still hopefully be able to achieve what I'm aiming for.

Cheers, it's good to be back. The B5 has been locked away for a year or so but I'm blowing the cobwebs off as we speak. We've been having a baby and stuff so everything has been on hold but I need to get back on track now.

How's your Quattro coming on? What sort of figures are you seeing now?

Quite impressed that you've kept it tbh!

Would have been all too easy to have said "dont have the time for this old car" and got rid.

Get some up to date photos up!

I couldn't bring myself to let her go (I still have the green one too believe it or not). I was considering a newer S4 but if I can get the B5 running as planned then I'll be more than happy with that I think.

Imagine the last time you saw the car but with an inch of dust on it and that'd be fairly accurate.

What are your thoughts on turbos? Should I stick with the T28? Maybe GT28 as I can use almost all of the same fittings with the introduction of a restrictor for the oil feed. I have a little bit of available money for a few shiny parts.

How are your cars coming on? Anything had a V8 stuck in it yet?

Good stuff.

If the T28's on and working i'd be tempted to leave it. if its a silvia turbo then there are drop-in options like the GT28RS which come with all the same housings etc. Really just depends what you want from the car i guess. The T25 stuff is sort of hard to justify if starting from scratch at this point due to the progress with hybrids and the K04-064.

Our avants still got its unmapped hybrid on it, hoping to get that sorted soon, i've got all the bits, just need to find some time to actually get the ECU installed etc.

I broke the saloon for parts and bought an E90 330d as my daily.

Track cars been out to a few days and works well enough. Needs the suspension sorting, tyres sorting, brakes sorting etc etc though, but its all money and time i dont have for now.

And no, sadly nothing has a V8.

The T28 is working fine at the miunte but it had about 70000 miles on when I bought it so might not last too much longer at remapped boost. I'm thinking it would be a shame to get a custom map for the T28 and then it go pop.

I do happen to have an almost complete GT28 with the same housing but it is in bits and needs refurbing.. is there anybody on here that could do it?

Are you going ME7 on the Avant? Is it my old hybrid (Mark's old hybrid)?

Oooooo yeah I like 330d.. good choice!

Glad you managed to get the track car on a track.

No V8 is a bit of a poor show though! ha

yeh Avants getting ME7.5.

Your old hybrid was on the saloon, but i sold that when i broke it. Avant has a "K300" hybrid from beachbuggy, quite a huge thing, perhaps too huge. The K300 hybrid on A3's make over 300hp, but the A4 parts are more restrictive. I'd be happy with 270ish.

@aragorn you should do a good DIY when you do ME7 convertion :)

conversion is easy. No need for a How to. Just do it

GT35's are the minimum turbo around here now :)

Ha ha Mark are you running a GT35?? I hope you and the family are all well.

Seriously though.. I'm sticking with either the T28 or GT28; I think I have everything covered except for the mapping.

Is there anybody linked to the site that might look at rebuilding a GT28 that I have?

What is the K300 based on? Is it a bolt on replacement for the K03?

Its got a compressor wheel from a Focus ST, and a turbine wheel from a RS6. In theory capable of 330hp or more with the wheels in it, but the housings and exhaust manifold etc are too restrictive for that.

Yeh its a K03/K04 hybrid just like the old scroll ones, just much much larger!

Sounds good. I spoke to Scroll about hybridizing the T28 and they can make a monster out of it but it wasn't cheap!

Turbodynamics did a pretty good job on rebuilding my turbo on a tdi a4. Not the cheapest though
