How much to fix my cruise control

basically stopped working if you move the stalk or try to set nothing appears on the console and nothing happens with the speed. What @ cost am I looking at to get it fixed - worst case scenario. Not technically minded so please don't ask me to check switches etc Just need an idea of the cost involved for repair..

Depends on what is broken, could be as simple as brake/clutch switch failed.

Most likely problem is the clutch switch, which only costs a few £ (<10) and takes less than 15 minutes to fit yourself.

Done plenty of fits to find the clutch switch is faulty. I always carry a spare clutch and brake switch to jobs with me now as I have come unstuck a couple of time, lol.

The clutch switch especially is very common to go faulty on the B7.
Part cost around £14 and a quick fix, but best bet is find someone local with VCDS to check the measuring values of the clutch and brake switch.

Remove the clutch/disconnect the cltch switch and connect the two wires together to see if it is a faulty switch, it just means connecting the two wires together, cruise control will not disengage by pressing the clutch switch, thats how I tested mine when it broke.

Can this be done by myself or do I need certain equipment to check values etc --IF it can be done by myself can someone provide a guide or link to one?

Honestly mate, it is such an easy fix.

Quick guide:-

1.Remove fuse side panel.
2.Remove 1 x 8mm bolt
3.Remove 2 x 8mm bolt under panel.
4.Remove connector from clutch swith
5.Turn clutch switch anti clockwise and remove (remember the way it came out)
6."Before you install new clutch switch, pull plunger all the way out, press clutch pedal down, re fit the new clutch switch, slowly depress clutch pedal so the plunger finds its own level.
7.Reconnect the connector.
8.Put the panel back on.

Job done :)

If you honestly don't feel comfortable doing it, then as already asked, where are you as I am sure there is someone local on here who can help you out.

Seriously mate, not much any of us can do. Plus thought you would have fixed this by now as I am sure you started a different thread back in August???

No need to do this step with the alternative clutch switch that Audi supply now (7H0 927 189) - just push the new switch in and turn until it locks.

Although your right Dave, I have had a couple of the new revised switches that I needed to pull the plunger out, as the plunger was too far in.
But yes, if already out, then no need to pull out any further.

Hi dave im having the same problem with the engine holding onto its revs inbetween gear changes, sure its this switch, do you where is best to order it from?

Best place to order one is from your local Audi dealer.
 
I had same thing, I had owned the car for about a year and a half without the c/c working only to realise it was a £15 job that took me 10mins to fit, and I'm a TOTAL novice when it comes to anything to do with fixing my car! I followed a step by step guide, don't seem to be able to upload pdf files here but can email it to you if you want.
 
Cheers guys, it was just as easy as you said. took me 10 minutes , very easy job and totally fixed the issue :) you would be mad to pay a garage to do that for you !

What did you mean by pulling the plunger out if you don't mind me asking. I replaced my original clutch sensor switch with this revised model and the cruise control now functions however I'm getting the same issue as mentioned below with the revs holding between the gear changes.

Is it just a matter of pulling the plunger further out to detect the pedal being pressed sooner?
