Hi all, my car has decided to annoy me with another noise! The pedal is making a really loud clicking noise! Does anyone have any ideas to solve it? I only had a new one fitted a couple of months ago. Would it be fair enough to take it back to the garage to have a look, or is the pedal nothing to do with the parts disturbed when changing a clutch? The noise is exactly the same as this video here: YouTube

Stick your head in the footwell and push the pedal down with your hand, I think the noise you refer to may just be the back of the clutch panel catching on the carpet when pressed down and it flicks it when you let it out. Mine did this when I had a steering shaft joint replaced. The back of the pedal has a little piece of plastic which catches the edge of the carpet.

Worth a look before taking it back

Thanks for the reply. It's definitely not the carpet from what I can see. Would I have grounds for taking it back then? Or is the actual clutch pedal not touched when changing the clutch and it's just a coincidence and nothing to do with their work?

I would take it back, got to be something to do with it

I had that on my 2011 S4 6MT, and was a bit worried as some postings reckoned that it was the start of the "end of the world" for the clutch actuating mechanism or clutch assembly and was a well documented problem - and always a gearbox out job. In my case, the Audi tech applied some - probably "super-lub" and it has been okay for about a couple of years. I also believe that there were some upgraded parts and maybe springs that were to get fitted to the clutch pedal if this problem continued.

Is it only when you press and de press the clutch pedal? I know the b7 has 2 clutch buttons which are plastic and flimsy, these tell the car when the clutch is pressed and depressed, and are actually very easy to snap with a heavy stomp (friend just killed both top and bottom on the 1/4 mile at POD from the heavy foot gear changes, b7 rs4).
Maybe one of these has snapped from normal use and that is what you hear, if it is the bottom one the car wont start so unlikely that one, car wont know if the pedal is down to run the ignition, but top one generally wont affect the running day to day except maybe the cruise control speed detection, but I dont know much more on the top ones purpose.

I expected that that was what was wrong with my car, or at least what was making the clicking, but it seems that there is some other plastic bits and helper spring and that is what was making the noise on mine, it is still okay after getting lub'd, though I would expect that when plastic/nylon parts in contact with each other get dry and wear a bit, then the surfaces will have been marked and only regular re-lub'ng would keep it quiet.

As you say, if bottom switch is broken, the car should not start, if the top switch is broken, you will not get the increase in engine revs when you take your foot off the clutch.

I had this a while back and it suddenly stopped...but then out of the blue it's just started again....it's very irritating!
