Hello,

1. Does anyone know the length of an 09/10 plate Sportback? My garage is small. Fits my A3 (8l 3 door) with some space to play, though I wish to park the car in, and also open the boot. So obviously the radius of opening the boot makes the car a little longer. Sounds miniscule but my garage joins onto the kitchen and obviously handy for unloading shopping etc :)

2. Service intervals - what should be due around 40 & 50k mileage? Timing belt etc? Interested so I know what to look for on the service history, and factor in any big services against price etc.

3. How much was a panoramic roof to add from new?

Cheers

Hi there length is 4302

The length is 4302 MM = 14 feet 1 inch

The roof was around £1100-1400

Brake Fluid should be done every 2 years, at 40,000 you need a transmission fluid change

Thats all i know sorry :)

Don't forget the height of the boot lid when it's opened ! It's higher than the car roof.

All information regarding what work is necessary is in the service book.

Great - thank you. I suspected the pan roof would have been pricey.

Wonder when the cam belt is up for a change.

Yeah - I have the height. Can open my current boot ok :). As for teh servicing, I don't have the handbook as I don't own one. Looking for info prior to buying.

Go down to your local Audi dealership and tell them about your garage, I'd be shocked if the don't let you test drive one to try in there.

Well I took that advice as it seemed a good idea. So phoned them up, they said yes = great! got there today (20miles away), and there was a 'mix up'. Sooooooo they could let me test drive a 3 door A3 - not sportback. Obviously a bit miffed, but thought I'd got there so might as well! :) Going from my old R reg A3 it was obviously a nice drive home, but nothing out the ordinary really. Smooth etc, pleasantly surprised by the diesel engine, more umpf than I thought, though I driving sensibly. Anyway it fitted lovely into my garage. I put it as close to the wall as physically possible that could still open the boot, and there was approx 400mm at the front tolerance, though I'd air on the side of caution and say 300mm to leave a gap.

So...does anyone know the size of an A3 (3 door) 61 plate?

Then I can do some simple maff.

Am I missing the point or is your question about 3 door or sportback ?

Have you not just said that they lent you a 3 door and that fitted fine.

Why are you asking this :- So...does anyone know the size of an A3 (3 door) 61 plate?

Apologies. To clarify:
I know the size of the S3 sportback.
They were supposed to loan me a sportback, but an error meant they loaned me an A3.

The A3 fitted fine with space to spare at the front of my garage (whilst the boot is able to open). I have 300mm clearance. Therefore if the difference between the S3 sportback and the A3 I loaned today is less than 300mm I will know that the sportback will fit and the boot will be able to open.

Either car will physically fit, but I want to be able to unload shopping from the boot into my joining kitchen - hence why I'm checking the sizes. If there wasn't an error today - I wouldn't be asking :|

Cheers

I have an S3 Sportback and my garage is a pre-fab' type at the back of my house. I am skinny and can just get out the ****** car in the garage if i make sure it is next to the left side. The tailgate opens fine, even with the swing and height of it and does not get near the roof of my poxy garage with its leaking roof and crappy build quality! LOL
There is room at the front and rear of the car (just enough, not to stand back ro owt) and my garage door is actually inside of the front as it is a roller type door and not a swing up and over door.
Hope that helps :)

The A3 and S3 are the same bodywise. Both 3 doors are the same and both sportbacks are the same.

The 'S' bit is just a lot more expensive in both versions !!! lol

Hahah - that helped by making me chuckle. My garage roof leaks too - going to get a new one when I re roof the whole house this summer. That'll stop those pesky leaks! Funny how we're more concerned about buying cars than fixing roofs, and squeezing around them so they're warm n dry! haha

I have plenty of room to walk down the sides. All I need to know is will the S3 sportback open when it is inside the garage length wise. I have plenty of height.

Yeah I figure that - but the car I had today was not an A3 sportback - it was just an A3 3 door.

Just to be pedantic, the S3 sportback is actually 10mm longer than the A3 sportback :p. The Chassis are the same, it's the bumpers that make the difference. I'll ask uncle google what the standard A3 3 door on a 61 plate size is. :)

Sorted:
A3 = 4238mm
S3 Sportback = 4302mm
Difference in length = 64mm.

Therefore the S3 sportback *should* fit in my garage and I will be able to open the boot. This is good news as I actually cut the back of my house out to give extra car room in the garage (whilst shortening the kitchen in the process!) haha.
