Hi Hoping someone can help me out as I have been looking on net but can't seem to find a correct answer. Recently I have not been able to unlock/lock any of the doors using the keyless entry, the fob will unlock the doors and can still start the engine keyless. I tried the spare key fob and that is doing the same. Is it a problem that can be fixed DIY or will it have to go to the dealer?

Could be the door handle sensor mate, you have to touch this to activate the system afaik, so it may just be the sensor, tbh stripping door down to get that out will take a while, will need painting aswell, I could probably sort this, but ideally it needs diagnosing 1st before condemning the sensor mate.
I work all over the place, so always up & around the north, maybe better to diagnose when I'm in Salford or is that too far, may have a job right in York soon aswell, depends on the client.

I had exactly the same problem (common fault) and got some great advice on here from FiftyPence, including a links to the "how to".
Its an easy job, no painting of handles required as the sensor slides into them.
I did my OS doors a month or so ago which fixed the problem, now the NSF has failed, so bought another sensor today for that - its an 30min job each handle.
Cost is £76 pound a sensorfrom a dealer - vagcom will detail which sensor/s is/are at fault to replace. One inop sensor stops all doors working (but start button and tailagate function as normal).
No need to clear fault codes as they appear to go when the faulty sensor/s i/ares replaced.

I would then take the tsb to audi & claim it should be done for free as they dont all fail like that, that would be ridiculous, so obvious manufacturing defect.
Hi thanks for letting me know, but a strange thing has happened, I went to Audi today at about 430 after work, the wife is wanting an A3, got out of the car and tried to lock the car by touching the handle and it worked and the keyless entry/locking has worked ever since, so don't know what to do about it now? could this have just been a glitch or an intermittent fault

That intermitent aspect was the same with mine too, to begin with... some times they worked, sometimes they didn't.
The earlier sensor housings crack and suffer from water ingress and then condensation which seams to make and break the circuit within leading to:
"3285 - Sensor for Contact with Door Handle; Front Left
011 - Open Circuit".
If it's failed, it will again, as the cracks won't mend themselves. I'd look on it as more of a reprieve... don't strike it off your "jobs to do" list just yet and save the link.
In the attached link it mentions that Audi recommend all 4 sensors are changed if the fault occurs (which to me implies if one has failed, you have the "known fault" type and so the others wont be too far behind... as in my case to prove the point). I've just been tight with a cost of £76 a door and replaced each as it's failed. Only one more to go now and I'll have changed the full set, but in installments ;-)
As for taking it to Audi and insisting they cover it.... well I don't fancy my chances persuing a claim on a 4.5 year old car on external electronics, even if it is a known problem. The above link never did actually reference a TSB that could be quoted - if there was something in writing a TSB etc, an admision of some sort, then maybe, but even then I suspect only if it were just out of warranty.

All manufacturers have them, but they tend not to be known outside the dealer network for obvious reasons.
Most are acted on whilst the vehicle is in for a service at a main dealer without you knowing if its a new vehicle. Keeps common faults below the radar for the manufacturer, but also a good reason to use main dealers for new cars as these items wouldn't be addressed outside of the dealer network - unless of course it was safety critical and justified a recall, but thats always a last resort.
If you do them as they fail as I've done you can spread the cost. If its working again, that would suggest only one is faulty. The more faulty the leass time they are all working!!
