Jardo's 'Journey to quattro' - My Story...

^^^^^ need a LOVE button lol

Jardo you know whatever you and prawn recommend i will go with, coilovers are top of my list, and after seeing the LCRs they are defo top aswell (lol) coilovers can be got anytime, if a set of LCRs come up at the right time then they will be mind :)

been thinking about weight saving, leathers gone will start, but defo thinking about removing the AC comp, will then have a good look thro Ron and see what else i can do without, with your help of course :)

Get the AC gone for sure.

There is a lot of weight to be taken out, it all boils down to what you can tolerate to lose and what is appropriate for you. You have a pimp Mk5 to drive as a daily, so there is no reason you couldn't go to town and remove everything. However with the family will you need all 5 seats, and will Rachel be driving it etc. It's all down to you.

Either way, I like your car a lot. It's a great project and I'm glad Prawn and I can be of influence and assistance to you.

I'll keep an eye out for LCR's.

Poor car!

I've done 800 miles in the last couple of days, driven from Plymouth to Basingstoke, then to Hastings and then back to Basingstoke and back to Plymouth. With all the driving about to and from family and stuff in the middle.

Was in the car for over 16 hours, and it was awesome. The car loves a good run :)

And I stopped off to see my other pride and joy whilst I was at home.

Looks like an alright boozer. Wish we got similar here. I do miss a decent english pub.

2 things:

The star (Pub in the background) is amazing!

Kylie (jardo's Ford Pop in the pic) is AMAZING!!!!

Sad that you were near my home and I didn't see you dude.

Glad you had a good time though. I drove this last week, and it was astonshingly good for an st1 car. Very good example for sure :)

New DV routing.

They look blue because of the flash/it being night time. I will get some decent pictures in the morning :)

Cheers Miggz!

Last night Prawn and I went on the **** with a load of our mates in Barnstaple. Prawn asked me to keep a table so our friends could sit there.

Job done, I wasn't moving.

S3 interior+weight = S3 wannabe. Thought you hated S3's Matey? :whistle2:

*Quickly whips off his S3 alloys..

I don't really care about how heavy they are, this car is a sensible daily driver and I think they are a nice edition. :)

Ok ok! I will take some weight out elsewhere to make up for it haha.

Fanx Scott :)

Lol Miggz, might just fold down the rear seats down. Straight up race car style.

I have ordered something rather different for the engine bay as a bit of a test, we shall see....

just take it out, who needs rear seats? they only used to mount the amps to anyway

A great day indeed :)

Prawn and Pierre came over, and we went out for a spin in all our A3's.

We went for a nice drive and I am pleased to report the A3 holds it own, unfortunately the conditions did not suit Prawn and we had a very interesting battle of power vs traction on one of the best roads in Devon.

Pierre and I at the lights; I'm ahead and they haven't even gone green ;)

Played about with launch control on Pierres car -

And my car is booked in for stage 2 with launch control on the 27th of January. :)

Nice launch control. Was waiting for it to shoot off but it just kind of sat there doing nothing but burn off tyre tread :p

LOL Jason, less "launch control" more "damage limitation".

Welll Judder, just remove the grille and the chrome surround and then refit the grille. Job's a good'un. :)

You were ahead because Pierre had his window down ;) haha.

The look great all lined up.

I do love Phil Mil.

Milltek is on, sounds epic, looks great, basically the same as when it was on Prawns.

I will write a little more later.

Looking good dude, give it a while to the new sections to coke up and it'll be great :)

Ready for st2 with TiV mapping now :) going to be good!!

I cannot wait for the new map :)

I was talking to Niki about something a bit special the other night, fingers crossed I will have a first :p

How much was your Milltek? I had a quote from a stockist near me:

Milltek Large Bore Downpipe inc High Flow Sports Cat £444.99 inc VAT
Cat Back System Non Resonated (louder) £340.00 inc VAT
Cat Back System Resonated (quieter) £369.00 inc VAT

Does that sound about right?....Always looking for a bargain :w00t:

Mine was fifty quid, don't let that put you off ordering a new one though haha.

The one thing I will say about Milltek's (or certainly this one!) is that they are well built.

This exhaust has done 120K+, 5+ years worth of service and had a 140mph crash on the Nurburgring on Prawns car. And it is still a great sounding exhaust.

When Prawn crashed he tore the mounts off the box and where the rear axel twisted there is an inch deep and four inch across dent in the box.

The exhaust still looked good -

The way we fitted mine was we cut down the decat pipe and I purchased a 2.5" connecting pipe from eBay which was sleeved at one end.

This is the center section before being clamped up.

Good flow!

The finished article needs a little revision, but it's pretty much there. My mechanically trained attack badger (Phil) is going to take 10mm out of the center section to bring the tips in like with the rear bumper a little better and that's it then.

I want to try to raise it up a little bit into the rear skirt, I am thinking of heating the bracket and bending it to try and pull it up. But to do that I will have to flatten the top of the box to stop it hitting the solid part of the mount on the boot floor.
