Hi

I'm really sorry that I'm likely posting a question that has been asked a million times, but I've spent ages searching here and all I seem to find is questions about upgrading to these on the older models.

Anyway, I have bought an a3 s-line convertible (59 plate) - for pics, it looks like this one . However this didn't come with the led drl's and I would really love to get them fitted.

Is it pretty straight forward on on my model? I know on some older ones people have been talking about having to change the whole front of the bodywork to be able to accommodate the new lights. I was just wondering if on my particular model this would be a more straightforward upgrade as I do remember the dealer saying it was an option for my car.

I'd be interested to know a ballpark figure to buy the lights and have them fitted.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help, it's really appreciated. Also apologies again if this has been asked a lot, I promise I read the FAQ's and tried to search the forums before posting.

Hi, welcome to audi-sport.net. Any pics of the car? Where are you located? Someone will be along shortly to advise you. Most things can be retrofitted on the 8P chassis. Try a pm to user NHN on here he supplies and fits oem parts. Enjoy the forum. :) x

Hi, thanks!

I don't have any pics of the car yet. I pick it up on Thursday. However it is exactly the same as the picture I linked in my first post. Same model and year also.

I know this is a stupid question but what is are 'oem parts'? Are they another type of make? I'd really only be looking to get genuine Audi parts. I'd be hoping for nothing different than if the car had of had the option included when bought new.

hi, oem parts are original equipment from manufacturer (audi). Where are you located? :) x

Oh, I see. Thanks.

I live in Brighton. Travelling somewhere else to get this done would be an option for me though.

User NHN travels to do his retrofit work, he is not to far from brighton, he does 1st class work, better than factory fitted. Drop him a pm he will help you out. :) x

Great, I'll try that then. Thanks a lot for your help and really fast replies!

No problem. We like people to get the help and advise they need as quickly as possible. Thats why we are the best, lol. :) x

Hi. I used to have an A3 S line convertible and looked into doing this. It can be done and Nigel and I discussed it a few years back. It is very cost prohibitive. New lights, balasts, loom adapters, levelling kit and headlight washer system which would also probably mean a new front bumper unless the bumper can be cut. Your talking easily £2K+ depending on where you source the parts. See A3 - 8P / 8PA / Cabrio for an example of part prices.

Thanks a lot for that info. Yes that's quite expensive. For some reason I was expecting more around the £1k mark. But I guess if it needs all of that it's obviously going to be high.

Not sure if it's worth doing for that price really. Although if it adds a lot to the resale value may still be worth considering.

Thanks again!

hi mate,

I don't think you'll get the money back on resale! it won't add that much value to a used car.

IMHO for the work thats involved I would try and locate a better spec car to start with. Even 1k to improve the lights is a lot of money!

Have a look in my link in my Sig, why not put some LED DRL bulbs in there and then i can also supply ice white halogen headlight bulbs, no more than £50 needs to be spent and will make a massive differance to the cars look.

Thanks

Hi those ice white bulbs look really interesting. Sorry, I'm really clueless about all these types of things, are these bulbs just simply swapped in to replace the old ones? Are they legal for road use to? I'm sure that's a stupid question but I don't know if there are any regulations for halogen bulbs colour use.

Thanks!

Hi.

yes they are a direct replacment, take the old out and put the new ones in.

they are road legal as they are ice white.

if you want a pair then write in the Thread and i will PM you mid jan when the delivery arrives :)

Well yes I'd definitely like to reserve them, thanks. Do you sell the led drl's you mentioned also?

In this thread http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-sportback-8p-chassis/175576-20w-cree-ps19ws-trups-fitted.html does this car have both the items fitted (the led drl's and ice white headlamp)?

If so they look really good. I'd really like to buy these from you.

Also how easy are these to fit? I did read something about having to take the bumper off? It's not a huge issue, I'm just quite useless so I may have to take them to a garage for the fitting after they arrive.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi.

im not sure if the ice white headlight bulbs wher from me but i can supply to get rid of the yellow headlight.

The 20w bulbs works as the DRL and the Sidelight so its just the 1 pair you need to buy. :)

That's great. So I just need to buy a pair of the ice white headlights and also a pair of 20w DRL's?

When you said "post in the thread" so you will remember to PM me when they come in.... Did you mean this thread or different one.

Or should I just PM you.

Thanks

Hi mate.
Those pictures are all with just the 20w CREEs turned on, I don't have trups ice white headlamp bulbs sadly.

With regards to fitting, the headlamps are a pain in the **** to change (you might have to take the wheel arch liner off) and the DRLs/sidelights aren't too bad so long as you don't have dinner plates for hands (you should be able to get to them from the engine bay).

You definitely won't regret buying the CREEs!

I have the OEM drl led's on my Black edition, does anyone know if the xenon bulb blows ,does the whole cluster need replacing?.They really are eye catching as everyone looks at my car, they are impressive but very costly

if your OEM DRL's go its the whole lamp that needs changing.

if the Xenon headlight goes the parts can be changed if its the bulb or the ballast.

Anyone ever heard of a OEM LED DRL failing yet? Just trying to figure out if it's common and as they are on cars that are 4, nearly 5 years old now it could be something that fails with age?

I know earlier A6's and A5's failed, these are 2007 cars mind you wher 1 LED would go out of the strip or the whole DRL would fail due to moisture.

My RS6 had a recall back in 2009 where the seals had to be replaced to prevent this, and i know of some owners having to have the whole lamp changed before this recall came into it, but i am sure 5years on they have sussed it so you should be ok on yours.

Someone we knew who had a Audi A5 Sportback 3.0 TDI had one of the LED's blew, but it's not very common at all.

That's nothing to worry about really - And if it's under warranty too! I paid £545.00 for the xenons on my car, there worth it but not sure about the resale value?

Cheers guys. Matty - It probably won't do much do the resale value but it'll certainly help the sale of the car as they are obviously a desirable extra. It was a fairly large reason why I went for my car to be honest.

Yes, I 100% agree with you there, they seem to finish off the front of the car in my opinon! I've already been offered £400 for the lights haha!

£400? That's way off the mark in my opinion and you probably don't want to do that anyway.

Haha! And sell the car with no headlights?!?!
