.. What do you with a perfectly good car with no engine?

my 55plate 2.0 tdi avant oil pump Cried enough last night. So after seizing the engine and blowing the turbo I am left with a perfectly good shell wheels and interior but no engine, So the question is what do I do with the bits that are left, I spoke to Audi this morning and they are not interested in any form of help at all, Although they did offer to fit me a brand-new engine for £8000, I declined the offer but I'm still left with a car sitting outside in the road with no Usable engine. Now I need to get as much money as possible from the bits that are left so I can put it towards another car.
How can I get the best return for the car, any help would be good

To be honest I would forget the dealers and find a good second hand engine and have a good reputable garage take the job on.

Or to have the engine rebuilt would probably be about £2500

i was thinking of getting shot of it as i don't want to risk another blb motor, i could break it but i don't want to be left with bits lying around so would prefer to sell it whole, just wondered what others have done

Yes but a second hand engine in good nick with a gear driven balancer shaft system is pretty much bomb proof so well worth spending your money on.

had a look but can't find one, wheres the best place to look

I dont know a great deal about the 2.0 tdi's and this problem but we have had 3 VAG cars up to now with siezed engines due to this, We sent them off to an engineering company to do it

But if you can get the modified set up fitted to yours or source a known modified engine and the car is in otherwise good working and cosmetic condition then i would get it done. That's if you like the car and not fussed on swaping it as long as it's reliable

The engine is reported as seized in which case I don't see how Powermax will be able to help as they supply aftermarket conversions?
Secondly I don't believe one can swap a BLB ( chain driven balance shaft) for an engine with a Gear driven balance shaft e.g a BRE as others have tried and I believe failed.
I think whats needed ( if the engine has seized and is a write off) is a second hand BLB which is ready for or has been converted to a geared unit, surely there are some out there in the breakers network ?
Good luck getting a solution to this most unfortunate this mess.

CTD!! I had the exact same thing happen to me.. As I was just about to give up hope I spoke to a great guy called mike who specialises in this kind of problem! He really is a god send, give him a call and he will answer any questions and by definitely get your car back on the road! Tell him chris with the crystal blue audi put you in touch. I will still be fresh in his memory!

His number is 07970478931

That's a total bast*rd...I really feel for you. Those engine are are a total mindf&ck! Surely, there are enough A4's in the UK to source an engine. If you get it up and running it would still be worth driving till the wheels feel off ( so to speak ) one would think. Selling it for spares would take up a lot of time and hassle...can you imagine all the phone calls from the tyre kickers?

Best of Luck,
Allan

there are a few of these places around BUT what parts do you need to use off the blown engine, i don't think you can still get the chain driven parts to fix a BLB engine but i don't know if if the oil pump is included in the recon engine?
AUDI A3 A4 A6 ENGINE 2.0 TDI [BRE] SUPPLY & FIT RECONDITIONED 05-08 £1495 | eBay

AUDI A6 A4 2.0D TDI PD ENGINE & FITTING BRD BRE BLB BMM BMN BKD 04-2008 140bhp | eBay

Get a copy of Audi Driver November 2012 ( there's a link to a pdf file on this forum somewhere if you take the time looking for it )
and there's an article therein explaining all your options and which company can do what etc etc.
If you simply do a search on" Audi Oil Pumps" in ebay uk you will see a whole lot of aftermarket options that people are selling including original BLB chain kits. All that said if you engine has seized you will need a new bottom end and very likely a turbo as well !

PS if I can find the link to the pdf mentioned above I will post it on this thread.
