Hi guys. Recently purchased a 1998 a4 1.9tdi avant. Since owning it ive serviced it changing the engine oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter, glow plugs, coolant, water pump and can and aux belts. The car has run fine since but within the last week I've noticed the engine is intermittently hesitant. If I accelerate gently I can hear it come on boost and then all of a sudden it stops. Almost like I've lifted my foot off the accelerator. If I back off the throttle then reapply it goes on to drive as it should. I'm not very good at explaining this issue so hope some of you may understand what I'm getting at and hopefully have some ideas as to where to start llooking thanks in advance
Dave

Could it be the infamous sticking variable veined turbo? I know the turbos on the old 1.9TDIs suffer from it as my mates Bora was the same. There are guides on the net for cleaning it using Mr Muscle oven cleaner. Might be worth a look.

Westicles speaks the truth. It will be VNT related,

Scott will be along shortly, he is the resident Derv fella.

Thanks guys. At least I know where to start now. I'd appreciate it if you could gen.heinz guderian. I'm in London until Friday night but could pop over Saturday morning if that's ok?

Meant to mention it has the afn engine in it in case that makes a difference
