Thought I would share my first real experience of true road rage.

Picture the scene. Following a clio and a ford escort van along a B road at 50-55mph last night ( daylight ) knew the road well and waited until out of the 'dip' which can hide an oncoming car. Nothing coming the other way, and T junction 600 yrds ahead. Signaled and pulled out to overtake. Once level with Clio, a car turned onto the road coming in oposite direction, so I pulled in infront of clio. Never thought much more ov it until I realised he was chasing me from then on. He finally passed me going past a crossroads with cars sat at them. I was slowing down further along the road to visit the inlaws. He saw me indicate, stopped and got out to hurl abuse at me. Did I get my licence on the back of a f*cking cornflakes packet, as I had cut him up.

I think the reallity was he didn't like anyone overtaking him and had decided to try and close the gap when I pulled infront. In other words, didn't know the highway code at all.

In his defence overtaking 2 cars with a T junction ahead would mean you'd have to brake heavily as soon as you got in front of the Clio regardless of the car coming the other way, so I'd say the manoevour was a bit naughty. If I'm gonna overtake in that situation I like an open road ahead so I can get clear, too many nutters out there these days.
 
I would also avoid overtaking near a junction on the side of the road you will be on (the road one)...

At least if the junction is on the side you are travelling then you can keep overtaking to avoid the car which may have pulled out.

Stupid little to55er in his Clio all the same though!!
 
hmmmm agree a little naughty, if you're gonna pull that sort of manover you gotta accept abuse occasionaly, a little over board from the clio guy but there are nobbers out there, already stressed out and then they get someone cut them up!!!!
 
OK 600 yrds, may be an understatement. Believe me I was being careful. If I had really been going for it I could have got past the van as well. I was always taught that if someone overtakes you, you are obliged to let them back in........not try and close the gap.

Just to give a more accurate idea of distance. From where I pulled out I can ( cough ) get to 110 and still brake in plenty of time for the T junction. That's what got me most about this whole situation, I was driving well within myself and the road conditions. Then from there on the clio driver drives like a complete nutter, and it's my fault........t*sser /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif
 
As i said you should of bumped him off the road really give the crier something to moan about lol /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

ooh this is a good one. having lived in the countryside for a while i can appreciate this one, and say that overtaking in the countyside is almost always done when theres a crossroads or a joining junction nearing, its unavoidable unless you want to stay behind that pensioner / panel van / tractor.

surely, common sense says that before you pull out of a junction, you check both ways to make sure that the road is clear? The fact that the car pulled out in front of you means that the drive assumed the road was clear and pulled out. zero out of ten for observance on their part.

However, i'm also fully aware that your life is in the hands of the dumbest sh!ts out there, like these people, and those who use mobile phones, put on make-up etc etc etc while driving...
 
Yeah but the guy who pulled out would have looked right to check the road was clear he wouldn't expect someone coming from the left on his side of the road.
Either way Japper would have been in the wrong had there been a crash as he was on the wrong side of the road.
If you've done an advanced driving course a large part of it is anticipation and treating everyone on the road as a major hazard (which isn't difficult on UK roads) afterall driving at great speed isn't hazardous, its the other road users who make it so.
So you really have to drive defensively and anticipate that the t*sser in front is likely to do what t*ssers do best i.e. drive like a t*sser.
So back to the example above, when overtaking in that situation you have to allow for the fact that the tw@t in the Clio will speed up (as they usually do), or the knob in the panel van will just pull out for no reason, or anyone in a BMW won't pull over into a completely clear middle lane etc etc. And when they do you can feel superior as they proved you right and when they don't it's a bonus as you're not held up.
 
Japper won't have been in the wrong. If you are pulling onto a main road it is up to you to check the road is clear both ways.
 
He would have been in the wrong as the car turning would already have been on the correct side of the road at time of impact, i.e. not pulling out of a junction, thus what happened seconds before is irrelevant. Japper already said that the car pulled out giving him enough time to take evasive action safely, so enough time to complete the manoevour and be just another car on the correct side of the road.
You hit a car head on, on the wrong side of the road I'm pretty sure you would be classed as "in the wrong".
 
Whoooooo, hold on guys, you mis understood me. I was overtaking a car along a road, approaching a T junction that WE had to stop at. The car coming the other way turned onto OUR road from the main road. He never had a problem with me. It was the first of ( nearest me ) vehicles that I overtook that had the problem. I was planning on overtaking both, because the van was going too slowly and I didn't think the Clio would pass. I pulled out and once along side the Clio and van the oncoming car turned onto our road. At this point I could have carried on, but I decided to be totally sensible and pull in, inbetween the clio and van. I did not 'cut' the clio up, and he HAS by rights to let me in. He was just peeved that I overtook him. From then on and after turning onto the main road ( at the T junction ) he proceeded to tailgate me all the way. I overtook another car ( on a safe straight stretch. He caught up by overtaking on a crossroads. And yes it would be the fault of the driver turning onto the main road and not the clio. But if you knew these particular crossroads, you would realise how many accidents happen there.

I was not interested in talking to him, and my wife came out of the inlaws to inform the guy that we had just received news of my mother in law being diagnosed with Cancer. He soon realised why I wasn't 'taking him on' and went about his way. His threat of ' I've got your reg no. and will report you to police' never materialised, not that I give a flying f*ck at the moment.

Hope this better describes the event.
