New A3 & A3 Sportback Brochure now online @ Audi.co.uk

Makes interesting reading. As far as I'm concerned I would want a 2.0TDI Sportback with an s-tronic gearbox. Similar spec to my current car and Audi are not offering the SE with s-tronic. Another reason to not to go for another A3.

Perhaps they will offer more variations in the future.
 
You can get the S-Line but opt for the standard suspension so it feels more or less like an SE.

I went in to my local dealership last week to ask about the new Sportback as it appeared on the website last week. I'm not sold on the engine options at the moment, the 2.0tdi 150 doesn't hold much appeal and the 1.8tfsi doesn't look like it stacks up well against BMWs 125i in any department. getting a test drive this week none the less.

The reason I want an SE is to get standard rather than sport suspension and standard seats rather than sports seats. Personally, when I sat in an S-Line at the Audi Pavillion in Wolfsburg's Autostadt I thought they looked silly with the two types of material used.
 
They would probably change the seats for you as well. When I was at my dealership last week they showed me the only S-Line they had in. It was awaiting collection from it's new owner and it had one modified seat for the new owners disabled wife and what appeared to be an SE seat on the drivers side. The car was bought via motibility but I don't see another purchase being any different.

I spotted an opportunity and asked them where the removed seats were. unfortunately they said they were keeping them just incase
 
Interestingly, the brochure now shows a 1.8T quattro and 2.0 TDI S-Tronic. Both options add lots of Co2, which doesn't bode well for my ideal non-S3 spec as a company car: a 2.0 TDI 190 with quattro and S-Tronic!

For me to like and consider a new A3 Audi would have to re-design almost all of the interior. My current A3 is my 8th A3 but it looks like it will be the last.
 
Funny how it sounds like I'm trying to sell it to you :) In real it I agree, the interior is the biggest problem area for me as well. Different reason though, I felt the interior in my 8P was the one area that really felt like it had been designed nearly 10 years ago and I think the new interior is too similar. It's just not on a par with other Audis.

I'm test driving a s door 1.8tfsi tomorrow so I'll get a better feel for it then I suppose.

I have standard seats in my 61 plate Audi A3, you are welcome to them!! They are the main reason I'm getting rid of it and upgrading to an s-line!
 
I can't abide non-sports seats. Just no side-support at all and I feel like I'm hanging onto the steering wheel too much when cornering.

Yeah I realise that now!! It has been an awful experience and has ruined driving. I'm not sure what possessed me.
 
A lot depends on your body shape. I had sports seats in all four of my Golf GTis and my Golf VR6. I also had them in my first four A3 1.8T Sports but I was both younger and smaller. I am now 65 years old and weight 17 stone so the side bolsters on the sports seats make them very uncomfortable. My last four A3s have has standard suspension and standard seats and I find the combination very comfortable.

I am on holiday in Germany at the moment spending one week in the Harz Mountains including a visit to the AutoStadt at Wolfsburg and now the second week in the Mosel Valley. The total distance to get here, between the two places and home again is some 1300 miles and I doing in the order of 100-200 miles a day. I can get out of the car at the end of each journey with no back pain and no sore bottom or legs. The s-tonic helps here as well. The last journey I did to Germany in an A3 with sports seats and sports suspension was no where near as comfortable.

It like most things on a car, you choose what suits you best. And in my case that's standard suspension and standard seats. It's certainly the option I will go for on my next car, all be it not an A3.

It can also depend on the material of the seats. With any type of leather seat cover you are going to slip around, but with cloth seats it's not so much of a problem. I certainly don't slip around in my seats.
 
I've only ever had a relatively short test drive in one but I have read the Volvo V40 has some of the comfiest seating you could ask for. Might have been it on TopGear website and not sure if the comment was specific to the V40 or all Volvos.

V40 is a crackin looking car but I preferred the overall A3 look and feel but I was impressed by the V40 interior and comfort.

You've gotta feel the seats are comfy and keep you feeling pain free if you do a lot of miles so good luck in whatever you decide to buy next.
 
My last car was a Volvo C30 and it was indeed very comfortable. I had the r-design interior. I could drie 350 miles and bounce out the other end! Not so much these days!
 
Oh don't get me started on full leather seats. They're an affectation IMO, merely there for aesthetics. They can be handy if you have children and want seats which can be easily wiped down, otherwise I feel that good fabric seats are more comfortable and grip you better. Leather is fine for side-bolsters but the main squab and back sections should be fabric. I've specced the alcantara/leather seats in mine which I feel is the best option :)
 
Agree 100% on the all leather. Alcantara/leather is the best seat fabric combination. It really annoys me that some manufacturers don't offer this combination. It also annoys me that manufacturers don't include heated seats as standard with leather full leather (which I would never spec anyway).

Comfiest seats I've ever had in a car were the sport seats in my 3 series. Adjustable in so many ways including back rest width and the thigh support was the only one i've ever found that actually did support my thighs.

This has to be the ultimate grumpy old man thread.

My current Sportback has an electrically adjustable driver's seat. This work well because both myself and my wife drive the Sportback. With the new A3 electric operation is only available if you choose leather seats.

The cheaper Skoda Octavia has electric seats with a memory on the seats and mirrors.
