Hi guys, just had 19's fitted to my 2007 A6, 2.0 TDI SE, tyre sizes are 235/35 x 19, the dealer set them to 34 psi all round as a default setting, just seems a little bit floaty, any recommendations greatly welcomed.

I have a 3.0 TDI on 255/35/19, and I tend to run mine high (44 front, 38-40 rear) for better economy, plus I prefer the sharper/lighter steering feel it gives. You could prolly get away with less at the front, due to the lighter engine.

In any case, the recommended pressures should be on a sticker on the fuel filler flap ;)

I have a 2.7V6 Quattro avant on 19"s and the recommended pressures are 42 on the front and 38 psi on the back. It's more on the front due to the weight of he engine.

Suprised fishy fish runs more, but might try those pressure myself to see if it makes a difference to handling or mpg.

My Avant is 2005 2.0L and I have 19s and ruhn them all at 34 all round... is this stupid pressures?? :S

I think there is an element of personal preference in what pressures you choose to run. I run my 235/35/19's at 38PSI front and 34PSI (S3, not A4), and although the manufacturer recommendation is higher I just find the ride quality is a just too jarring at recommended pressures (42/38). If we put luggage / weight in the car we always adjust up, but the biggest issue other than economy is that you could suffer from uneven tyre wear if you have a massive difference over OEM spec. I'd be inclined to ramp it up a few PSI, anywhere within about 10%+/- shouldn't be out of the question.

From personal experience, my 255/35/19s have to kept at the makers recommended pressures, 44/38, otherwise they will not wear correctly.

You soon get used to the bone-jarring, wince-inducing, spine-smashing, noisy unforgiving ride.

According to the sticker in the filler cap my 255/35/19s should be at 44 Front and 38 Rear when car is lightly loaded (3 persons with no luggage). When the car has more than this the sticker shows that they should be 45 Front and 48 Rear. The manual recommends keeping the tyres at the higher value if you don't want to keep changing the pressures with loads, so I've decided to keep all 4 of my tyres at 48 psi. They were all at 39 psi when I bought the car 2 weeks ago and all 4 tyres showed signs of more wear on the outer shoulder, so the higher pressures I now use should correct this and allow them to wear more evenly across the whole tread width. At 250 quid per tyre I want them to last! The ride isnt too harsh, not as bad as my wife's S3 anyway.

On the C6 the 19's should have 255 tyres fitted.

Lower profile tyres run higher pressure to help avoid damage to the rim.

Update, have changed the tyres to 255/35's and running them at 38psi front and rear, putting the correct size ratio tyres has made a big difference, 235/35's are just too low a profile. Much more settled a ride now, thanks for all the replies as well.

No Mr Bond, I expect you to etc etc etc,

You should run the fronts at 44 otherwise they will not wear properly......

Tyre pressure should be kept the same. Same pressure just a different volume of air. 19's will feel more harsh as they a lower profile and stiffer side wall.

I'm guessing that you've checked the sticker on the door pillar and the handbook?

Does it give any pressures for 19" tyres?
My friend has an All Road, but I'm sure the tyres are 255/35 x 19 on his.

Ok, I'll check my friend's car next time I see it and have a look to see if the sticker is any different.
Theirs is a V8 petrol one though and has the 19" Speedlines on.
